Associate Director of Models and Methods – Computational Chemistry
In this exciting new role you will manage a team of Data Analysts while crafting computational chemistry structure and innovation driven methods to support the R&D and innovation pipeline. You will manage a team of 5 Data Analysts.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to lead and build competencies and capabilities in models and methods contributing to a global sustainability initiative aimed at developing sustainable solutions.
In this role the candidate will be responsible for developing and executing the vision for the newly created Models and Methods team in the fields of Analytical Science, Computational Science, and Application Development. This position will be in Chicago and report to the R&D Vice President.
Responsibilities: This position will directly manage a team of 4-5 Data Analysts, and will report to the VP of R&D.
- Lead, prioritize, develop and establish new platform capabilities, including building digitization and automation of the company’s innovation engine, developing model-based product and process design capabilities, strengthening of analytical and application development capabilities and expertise
- Collaborate locally and globally with fellow scientists, engineers, operations, sales, and marketing team members of technology, product and process as well as model development projects
- Leverage external sources of innovation, including R&D capabilities, to develop technologies, methods, and models for new products and processes
- Provide coaching, and guidance regarding project tasks to other engineers, designers, technicians and associates
- Requires a flexible work style and travel as necessary to perform assignments

Salary
$150,000 - $190,000
Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Material Science, Polymer Engineering, Analytical Science, or Computational Science is required
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in R&D leadership roles
- Experience in digitalization, data science and/or application development in a material science industry
- Strong team-oriented professional with good interpersonal skills who is hands on with a high energy approach to work leveraging analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate ideas and information clearly, effectively, and frequently (oral and written) both to senior management, customers and associates
- Knowledge of statistical and modeling software
- Experience with polymer formulations, including experimental design, data analysis, structure-property relationships, and the development of models and methods to improve product formulations
