Job Description
Our customer located in southern Wisconsin is seeking a color chemist in the development, formulation, and commercialization of paints and coatings. The right candidate will possess a passion for development, good color eye, technical acumen, and ability to process information seamlessly and quickly. The role will help assist in the development of color programs, technologies, and execution of tinted paints and coatings to meet industry standards.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The Color Chemist role is responsible for mixing and testing samples for customers. You will also test the application methods of mixed colors to ensure accuracy of the correct color and layer thickness for final development.
Color Formulation: The primary responsibility of the color chemist is to create color formulations based on customer requirements, and to adjust color formulas as needed to meet production requirements.
Color Matching: The color chemist must have a strong understanding of color theory and the properties of different pigments and dyes. They must be able to match colors accurately and consistently using a variety of color-matching tools and equipment.
Testing and Analysis: The chemist is responsible for conducting tests and analysis on colorants and finished products to ensure that colors are consistent and meet customer specifications. This includes performing colorfastness tests, color consistency tests, and other quality control measures.
Communication: The chemist must be able to communicate effectively with customers, sales representatives, and internal teams. This includes providing technical support, answering questions about color formulations, and making recommendations for improvements.
Record-Keeping: The chemist is responsible for maintaining accurate records of color formulations, testing results, and customer feedback. This includes maintaining a database of color formulas and updating records as needed.
Equipment Maintenance: The color chemist must be responsible for maintaining color-matching equipment and ensuring that it is calibrated and functioning properly.
Continuous Learning: The color chemist must keep abreast of developments in the coatings industry, including new manufacturing processes, color trends, and technical advancements. This includes attending training sessions, reading industry publications, and participating in professional development activities.

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials, or other equivalent scientific field strongly preferred.
• Pass color vision test aka strong “color-eye”
• Have a minimum of 1-year related experience. Prior coating experience with architectural or industrial applications preferred.
• Demonstrate good math skills
• Show excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrate good knowledge of Microsoft Suite (MS Office) programs.
• Knowledge of SAP
• Experience with X-Rite spectrophotometer and software.
