Multisite EHS Manager

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager has the responsibility for managing the Environmental, Health & Safety programs at the assigned facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor and assist the facility with compliance of all applicable company environmental, safety and health standards as well as all federal, state and local regulations.
- Develop compliance plans for air and water permits.
- Manage WPDES permits.
- Oversee and maintain compliance with PSM programs in cooperation with site managers including engineers, maintenance supervisor, plant manager and production manager.

- In cooperation with area managers and first-line supervisors investigate all injuries, environmental releases and serious near misses.
- Immediately report all injuries, environmental releases and serious near misses to the Plant Manager. Submit a written notification of all injuries, environmental releases, and serious near misses to the corporate EHS department using the RCI reporting program.
- Complete a first report of injury with Workers Compensation Carrier if required for a workplace injury.
- Monitor return to work instructions given by health care provider and advise area managers and supervisors on appropriate return-to-work activities.
- Manage all site workers’ compensation claims.
- Under the direction of the Corporate Director of EHS, participate in special assignments as they relate to corporate EHS audits, new facility pre-startup safety reviews, and EHS training programs.
- Actively participate in all safety activities taking place at the facility including safety observations, inspections, training, audits, and incident investigations.
- Lead the site Safety / GMP audit team; comprised of QA, maintenance and production.
- Develop working relationships with outside regulators including fire, police, wastewater, and WDNR officials.

EH&S Manager Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the Health, Safety, and Environmental (EH&S) programs and policies. Develop, implement, and maintain plant rules, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe and healthy working environment. Implement and maintain EH&S policies and standards developed by Corporate EH&S and other groups.
- Responsible for assuring the plant’s compliance with all State, Local, and Federal EH&S regulations including OSHA, EPA, DOT, DHS.
- Responsible for preparation and timely submittal of all EH&S monitoring and reporting required by environmental permits (Waste, Water, Air, Aboveground Storage Tanks, etc.) and EH&S regulations.
- Work closely with employees to provide personnel training and monitor results for EH&S management issues. Prepare and lead monthly site safety meetings with all shifts. EHS Manager Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in EH&S / Engineering or related field.
- 3-8+ years’ experience in environmental, health, safety, and industrial hygiene.

The Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) is responsible for overseeing and integrating all aspects of environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple facilities at the company. This role encompasses leadership in developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and fostering a culture of safety and sustainability. The Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, serve as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies, and play a pivotal role in strategic initiatives within the Operations leadership team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and promote a comprehensive safety and health culture throughout all of the company facilities
- Facilitate the alignment of objectives across facilities to ensure all locations are focused on accomplishing their goals
- Be a leader who can align measurable goals across multiple locations to achieve a common goal
- Understand environmental regulations including but not limited to EPA and WDNR permitting as it applies to land applications of waste, wastewater treatment and disposal
- Design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety, health, and environmental programs, including but not limited to process safety management, confined space, lock-out tag-out, and hot work
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and corporate standards
- Serve as the primary Health and Safety representative with government agencies to ensure compliance and address regulatory issues
- Manage incident investigations to true root cause, ensure timely reporting, and implementation of effective corrective actions
- Oversee the development and executing of training programs for employees at both plant and corporate levels to ensure competency in safety and environmental practices
- Collaborate closely with the Sustainability team to ensure alignment and support in environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and waste minimization efforts
- Prepare reports as needed for the monthly Executive Safety Council (ESC) meetings and drive continuous improvement through safety committee initiatives
- Using Evotix Software, monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to safety, health, and environmental performance
- Serve as a resource for new capital projects to identify and address potential safety and health issues
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to the EHS team
- Participate in special assignments such as corporate EHS audits, new facility pre-startup safety reviews, and strategic projects as directed
- Lead 2-3 EHS focus groups to accomplish the goals of the group to build capabilities within the group and company

Qualifications:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupation Health, Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related field re. Masters
- In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to safety, health, and environmental compliance
- Proven ability to lead and drive cultural change towards safety excellence and environmental stewardship
- Strong analytical skills with experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
- Proficiency in utilizing software tools for data analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Willingness to travel to various plant locations as needed

Reporting into the Plant Manager, the EH&S Manager is the owner of and is accountable for all plant activities to the health, safety, and environmental protection of the company’s employees, community, and surroundings. This position will also play a significant role in the administration of the plant’s process safety management program. EH&S Manager position has no direct reports.
Job Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the Health, Safety and Environmental (EH&S) programs and policies. Act as the local Subject Matter Expert for the EH&S topics.
- Conduct periodic site assessments of the site EH&S programs and audits.
- Trending of EH&S performance metrics to gauge current state and provide basis for continuous improvement. Able to communicate these to upper management.
- Responsible for assuring the plant’s compliance with all State, Local, and Federal EH&S regulations including Oregon DEQ, OSHA, EPA, DOT/FRA.
- Actively engage with employees and contractors in the field. Work with contracts to ensure safety on site, including contractor qualification, pre-job planning and training, and safe work permit issuance.
- Responsible for preparation and timely submittal of all EH&S monitoring and reporting required by environmental permits (Waste Water (NPDES), Title V, Storm Water (12002) etc.) and other EH&S regulations.
- Work closely with employees to provide personnel EHS training and monitor results for EH&S management issues.
- Lead incident investigations, including determination of root causes and development of corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Provide oversight and management of site EH&S related action items.
- Provide support on capital projects, including completion of new installations.
- Provide oversight and support for the site Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) system.
- Assist in regard to HR related questions and issues such as New Hire Orientation, and Workers Compensation etc.

Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in EH&S / Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years’ experience in environmental, health, safety, and industrial hygiene.
- Experience in process safety management preferred.
- Air Permitting, Title V, Storm Water, SPCC, SWPCP, Hot Work Permit, LOTO, Confined Space Program, and other regulatory compliance programs; however, we will consider candidates who do not have experience in all of these topics specifically.
- Detail oriented and ability to handle multiple tasks in fast paced environment.
- Microsoft Office including advanced Excel skills.
- Must be able to maintain collaborative working relationships with plant staff, production supervisors, operators and maintenance personnel.
- Travel less than 5%; must be available to respond to incidents and/or provide coverage after hours, as required.
- Ability to operate safely in a manufacturing environment; this may include, but is not limited to potentially lifting up to 20 lbs., standing for extended periods of time bending, crouching, stooping, rotating, climbing stairs, or any combination of the aforementioned, etc.

Reporting to the Head of EHS and Sustainability, the EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing environmental, health, and safety programs within operations. This role ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and standards, including OSHA, EPA, and ISO certifications (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and 50001). The EHS Manager will lead initiatives to reduce workplace hazards, enhance safety culture, promote sustainability, and achieve continuous improvement in EHS performance. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of EHS strategies.
Responsibilities: Site EHS Leadership
- Ensure operational alignment with company’s OIMS framework, compliance with NA EHS Policies, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 standards, as well as regulations.
- Support site-specific EHS annual objectives, targets, and KPIs to drive facility performance improvements in EHS, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
- Guide plant management on EHS initiatives, ensuring alignment with company’s long-term goals of Zero Harm, continuous improvement, and environmental stewardship.
- Ensure completion of risk management processes, including risk assessments, hazard analysis (HAZOP), job safety analyses (JSA), and control of work (CoW) processes.
Incident Management and Root Cause Analysis
- Lead investigations of all incidents, near misses, and environmental releases, ensuring that a thorough root cause analysis is conducted and that corrective and preventive actions are implemented.
- Oversee and manage the reporting of incidents in accordance with company’s incident management protocols, ensuring all regulatory and corporate notifications are timely and complete.
- Develop lessons learned materials and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions to prevent recurrence of incidents, embedding a culture of safety and accountability at all levels.
EHS Continuous Improvement & Auditing
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by conducting regular safety audits, management reviews, and inspections, ensuring that the site remains in full compliance with company’s OIMS, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Lead EHS self-assessments and external audits, ensuring that gaps are identified, action plans are developed, and improvements are implemented.
- Utilize leading and lagging indicators to assess EHS performance, report trends to senior management, and support data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Manage emergency response plans, including the establishment of emergency response teams, drills, and simulations, ensuring readiness for events such as fires, chemical spills, and natural disasters.
- Coordinate with local emergency services and regulatory bodies to ensure smooth collaboration in the event of an actual emergency.
- Regulatory review emergency action plans to reflect current facility conditions, regulations, and best practices.
