Analytical Lab Lead Scientist
This person will manage 4 technicians, and the team will include other senior scientists that perform similar responsibilities. This person reports to a Sr. Manager and that person reports to a Director, who reports to the VP of Food Safety and Quality.
- Leads projects with oversight of a technical team performing critical laboratory analytical testing
- Identifies, initiates, designs, directs, and conducts research in the area of analytical chemistry, leading to the development and implementation of new analytical methods for the company. Maintains competency in cutting edge analytical chemistry and chemical theory and researches the feasibility of using this technology in the analysis of food products
- Fulfills the role as a technical consultant / troubleshooter when more generally defined analytical chemistry problems at R&D, plant, or QC labs are beyond scope of the plant / corporate personnel
- Initiates, coordinates, and oversees systems to improve assay efficiencies within the laboratory
- Validates methods to prove the analytical methods is acceptable for its intended purpose
Primary Objectives of the Position:
- To be an all-encompassing Lab Chemistry Scientist working on any and all aspects of the company portfolio of CPG products including but not limited to meat proteins, peanut butters, soups, sauces, pastes, and dips
- Your expertise in ICP, GC, and HPLC utilizing UV/Vis, ECD, MS, MS-MS, food chemistry, food safety, LIMS, elemental analysis, lab equipment validation, LCMS, nitrate testing a plus (in meat proteins)
- Leading with knowledge and experience with ISO 17025

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- A Master’s, PhD or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry specific to food ingredients with 10+ years of food / ingredient experience. (Master’s degree preferred)
- Experience with analytical procedures and equipment such as ICP, GC, and HPLC utilizing UV/Vis, ECD, MS, MS-MS, etc.
- An understanding of advanced scientific principles and extensive experience with ISO 17025 is a requirement
- Demonstratable leadership skills as it relates to initiating, planning, managing, and executing complex projects
- Significant experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including superior team building and management skills
- Organization and participation in collaborative studies
- Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, and creativity
- Excellent communication skills including effective listening, speaking and writing
- Ability to work in an inclusive team environment, treating others with dignity and respect
- Must be a Citizen or National of the United States, a lawful, permanent resident, or have authorization to work in the United States
- Team player while being a leader
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment of continuous change and challenges
- Communicates effectively with employees at all levels using verbal, oral and written skills to accurately define requirements, interpret project goals into actionable tasks
- Coordinate tests at various locations with production and management personnel, document results, and present recommendations for implementing new or modified product formulas or processes
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
- Enthusiasm to keep up with system changes
- Communicative to fellow lab, plant personnel, as well as corporate leaders in company
