Application / Formulation Chemist – Foam

Specialty chemical manufacturer is looking for a foam formulation chemist to join their team.  If you have a minimum of 7+ years of experience formulating foams and are goal oriented, this could be a great opportunity for you!  Our client offers great benefits!

Duties:

  • Conduct physical property and application testing, including substrate bonding, equipment setup, and problem-solving
  • Perform physical property tests such as R-value, compression strength, dimensional stability
  • Organize and analyze data, presenting findings in written and verbal form
  • Coordinate analytical lab testing for product characterization and troubleshooting
  • Provide technical support to assigned accounts, recommending products and process conditions
  • Guide new product development efforts using applications knowledge
  • Recommend product and process modifications to improve field conversion rates
  • Manage project portfolio, identifying new technology and business growth opportunities
  • Coordinate sample preparation and support documentation delivery
  • Understand product formulation, raw material functions, and batch process scale-up for urethane adhesives
  • Safely handle hazardous chemicals, run reactions, and utilize various test equipment
  • Plan and conduct experiments to meet project goals
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is managed, maintained, and improved safely and efficiently
  • Source, purchase, and start up new lab equipment as needed
  • Create and maintain safety procedures and SOPs, ensuring proper staff training
  • Oversee lab organization, inventory management, equipment upkeep
  • Identify and implement new equipment, testing and lab capabilities
  • Works with a high degree of independence
  • Act as a technical liaison between Sales, Quality, and Production units
  • Address product complaints and customer needs
  • Support Production optimization initiatives
  • Commercialize new products, including process transfer and specification setting
  • Prepare technical reports and promotional documents
  • Ensure proper documentation of project reports and promotional materials
  • Domestic and international business travel as required

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering preferred, Engineering, Chemistry, or Polymer Chemistry will be considered
  • 4+ years of practical adhesive lab management and end-use application experience
  • Excellent knowledge of chemicals and a willingness to adapt
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Fluent in English
  • Experience in project management and decision-making processes
  • Up to 25% overnight travel during the work week, occasionally more as needed
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs. manually and unassisted
  • Wear personal protective equipment, including respirators, as needed
