Application Development Chemist – Plastics

The Chemist will assist in the creation and evaluation of chemical and physical properties of various thermoplastic products that serve as raw materials, reagents, new products, or end-use materials produced from compounds of interest to permit the investigation of their suitability for use in thermoplastic applications of commercial interest to company.

The individual will also develop, improve, and customize new or existing products, equipment, formulas, processes and analytical methods in support of business within these markets.

The individual will be expected to compile and analyze test information, keep good written records in laboratory notebooks, possess good oral and written communication skills, and work well with others in a fast-paced, multi-tasking team environment.

There is occasional travel (20-30% typically) to visit with customers and support them from a technical standpoint.  There will also be required attendance at trade shows from time-to-time.

Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD in chemistry or related
  • 5+ years of industry experience in plastics compounding / formulation. Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field; most preferably familiarity with a Brabender and/or other thermoplastic compounding related equipment
  • Understands structure/property relationships between plastics additives and plastics performance / processing
  • Someone that has technical curiosity! The team here enjoys science and technology and someone like this will be the best fit culturally
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills – this position involves customer interface and customer visits. There is about 20-30% travel (maybe up to 40% at times) to see customers and some trade shows
  • Must be someone that is hands-on! While they do have technicians, this person will need to be hands-on in the lab
