Application Development Scientist (Ophthalmic Industry)

We are currently searching for an Application Development Scientist (Ophthalmic Industry) to handle the following responsibilities:

  • Identify and document ophthalmic industry and customer specific unmet needs and product fitness for use criteria
  • Participate in, align with and influence the strategy of the ophthalmic industry segment team
  • Become a core member of ophthalmic segment team (Application Development, Marketing, Sales, Technical Service, Product Management)
  • Promote an entire portfolio of solutions to meet market needs
  • Support market facing StageGate Projects (Full, MAS, MAP) and lead technical activities of SSOs and StageGate projects
  • Become a technical expert in the market and its applications (including understanding competitive products)
  • Design and execute experiments aimed at developing applications for the ophthalmic industry
  • Provide grade recommendations
  • Convert voice of customer into CTQs which drives product selection and development
  • Promotes customer trials and evaluations
  • Helps develop technical information for sales
  • Defines unmet needs / deficiencies
  • Knowledgeable about industry relevant secondary operations
  • Helps complaint resolution (field failures related to fitness for use
  • Partner with Product Development team to deliver products that the markets needs and that will bring value to company

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (>5 years relevant experience); Ph.D. in Polymer or Material Science preferred
  • Customer facing experience preferred
  • Experience with polymer testing and characterization required
  • Experience with polyester and/or cellulosic thermoplastics preferred
  • Excellent judgment and relational abilities. Able to collaborate with peers of various technical backgrounds and fields of expertise to enable effective product development
  • Must demonstrate excellence around professional follow-through and achieving timely closure on issues and assignments. Must be customer focused and have leadership potential
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Previous project leadership in an industrial setting is preferred
  • Quickly assimilates new information
  • High level of motivation, initiative and sense of urgency
  • Flexible to provide first-hand presence and effective support in multiple labs and facilities
  • Complete fluency in English, including good verbal and written technical communications
