Applications Scientist

The Application Scientist effectively supports all pilot plant and food lab processes and works with peers to design and implement new processes and equipment to improve efficiency, food quality, and food safety.  Interfaces with all levels of company, Sales, Marketing, R&D, Regulatory, Legal departments as well as customers.  Practices sound technical, communication and negotiation skills that ensure the successful implementation and delivery of application projects.

  • Extensive process knowledge in Dairy beverage, creamers and cultured products, Batching / Blending, HHSZT (Higher Heat Shorter Time), UHT (Ultra High Temperature), Homogenizers
  • Expertise in Equipment and piping cleaning and sanitation: CIP, COP, SIP, Sterilization, Disinfection
  • Understand and document current processes, identify areas for improvement, develop solutions for future states and implement sustaining improvements
  • Optimize current processes to meet all regulator and internal requirements
  • Must practice proven decision making skills, working effectively under pressure and possessing the integrity to make the right decisions
  • Develop relationships and solicit input into process improvement design considerations from key technical resources
  • Development of internal policies, procedures, documentation and facilitating training on current and new processes across the team
  • Create and animate training for sales, customers and/or go to market resources
  • Due diligence in keeping trial records with proper documentation to facilitate innovation and protect the value through patenting of their solutions
  • Participate in customers trials, with a high degree of technical challenge
  • Deliver technical seminars on product and process solutions at customer’s and large group settings
  • Manage operation and development of SOP for equipment related to segment
  • Contribute to a safe and environmentally friendly workplace and comply with company’s safety policies and SOP

Requirements:

  • Minimum BS, Masters or PhD in Food Science, Food Engineering, and Chemical Process Technology from an accredited College or University
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of dairy process and formulation experience required, preferably in CPG beverage / food manufacturing
  • Managerial: Leadership, project management, able to coach
  • Leadership: Technical leader to coordinate and execute cross functional projects
  • Manufacturing experience a plus
  • Knowledge and experience with specialty ingredients – starches, proteins and sweeteners desired
  • Effective team player, independent and resourceful
  • Post doc finishing thesis will be considered
  • Protein characterization, isolating proteins
  • How peptides affect human anatomy
