Job Description

Application Technologist

The essential functions and basic duties of the Application Technologist will include:

Project Management

  • Develops work plans and has proven time and project management skills
  • Ability to manage relationships with universities and coordinate testing at university culinary innovation center to conduct plant-based meat alternative application studies
  • Works closely with the company’s quality team to conduct bakery studies in our laboratory
  • Assist with R&D and production trials focused on new product development where customer input will be key to product success
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to think through technical solutions with an eye towards the commercial implication to the business
  • Familiar with Stage Gate processes and project tracking and prioritization to drive business success

Customer Support & Technical Partnership

  • Provide technical service to customers as needed (plant trials, troubleshooting, answering technical questions, and presenting innovation concepts) both virtually and in-person, as needed, to support base-business and innovation efforts
  • Demonstrate an understanding of customers, category markets, brand understanding, and consumer preferences to further drive new product development projects
  • Develop strong relationships with aligned customers in the plant-based meat and bakery segments
  • Take key R&D new product initiatives and evaluate in end formulations for value proposition and within customer project scopes
  • Coordinate customer sample requests with the commercial and quality teams

Innovation

  • Understands ingredient functionality and performance in different finished products and incorporate technology appropriately
  • Assist with the development of new product and application literature, including Technical Reports, Concept Sheets, and Customer-focused Presentations
  • Develop finished product formulations incorporating company’s new product technologies for concept demos to customers and/or assist customers in evaluating company’s technology within the scope of their requirements
  • Work on projects for key local, strategic, and regional customers with commercial success
  • Utilize market insights database to help commercial team in presentations with customers to support our new product initiatives against customer’s brand and product portfolio
  • Participate in relevant industry tradeshow or technical events to support commercial team and product initiatives

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or other related discipline
  • Hands on experience in applied application technology “at the customer” a plus
  • Excellent communication and listening skills
  • Dynamic problem solver with solid analytical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in ingredient manufacturing and/or consumer good company in similar conditions
  • 0-3 years’+ relevant industry segment experience: bakery/snack, vegetable proteins, plant-based meat alternative applications, etc. as well as high value, differentiated ingredients experience
  • Excellent communication and listening skills; ability to step away from the details and share the big picture impact
  • Dynamic, creative problem solver with solid analytical skills
  • Superior project timeline development, risk assessment, and prioritization skills. Project management course work or certification a plus
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a strong bias for action
