Application Technologist

The Applications Technologist is a valued part of the R&D team, working specifically in the formulation and testing of metal working fluids and cleaners.  The Technologist will be dependent on attention to detail to successfully monitor processes and note observations and deviations from expected behavior.  The Technologist will use critical thinking to define and correct issues as they arise.  The Technologist will work independently and provides verbal updates, scientific reports, and/or presentations detailing experimental results.

This individual will need to embrace a very cross functional and collaborative work environment.  They should enjoy diversity in their role and variety in tasks.

  • Formulates metal cleaners using knowledge of industry standard ingredients
  • Formulates concentrates using knowledge of industry standard ingredients
  • Runs lab scale performance tests on formulated fluids; performing routine protocols such as foaming, corrosion, staining, lubricity, and cleaning
  • Develops value creating solutions for the customer in response to presented problems
  • Effectively applies the scientific method to solve technical problems
  • Participates in the generation of ideas and data to support the development of intellectual property

Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science
  • Formulation skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Ability to work efficiently on multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain clear and timely laboratory records
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to learn new systems / processes / technology quickly
  • A minimum requirement for this US based position is the ability to work legally in the United States on a permanent basis (U.S. citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, or Qualifying Asylee/Refugee)
  • Local to Chicago area
  • Adherence to all company safety standards and associated regulations, including the smoke free and drug free workplace policy
