BU Director, Research & Innovation – Yogurt

A key leadership role enabling company strategy to ensure we continue to be the leader in healthy, favorite, and sustainable food products by:

  1. Ensuring brand technical innovation is developed and new products with points of differentiation are delivered to support the values of unrivaled quality, creativity and innovation across our product portfolio and categories
  2. Mitigating input costs and enhancing margins through joined up innovation and cost leadership programs
  3. Advancing the business through brand stewardship for the product and technical brand management excellence, ensuring all aspects meet or exceed the quality, creative and product delivery requirements within a managed timeline and cost objective

Responsibilities:

  • Represent Research & Innovation (R&I) on the Yogurt Business Unit Team and lead BU pipeline creation and delivery
  • Co-create and deliver on technical strategy for growth, including short-term and longer-term innovation platforms; Lead annual operating plan and budget deliverables
  • Orchestrate the R&D function to deliver technical programs across Innovation, Quality Improvement and Cost Savings and lead a solidified technical program
  • Coach and build team capabilities in creativity, new product and category development, and technology innovation to assure industry leading excellence in product development
  • Create the conditions for people to succeed through inspirational engagement and effective career growth and development planning
  • The Director of R&I for the Yogurt BU must have a strong technical background, exemplary leadership skills and the experience and ability to work cross functionally. This role is accountable for the performance delivery of ingredient, product, and process innovation including cross-functional planning across multiple teams (Marketing, Supply Chain, Quality, Packaging, Sales, etc.).  The leader will set the tone for creating possibilities, the standards of technical excellence, commercial viability, and quality.  They are equally accountable for the transformation of the function to become a robust high performing R&D team that underpins and elevates the business unit and overall enterprise performance
  • The candidate must have proven experience in influencing and supporting executive level leaders and programs and equally able to roll up sleeves to delver great work and engage at all levels and functions of organization. The candidate must also be adept at working in a fast-paced setting and comfortable leading through ambiguity

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Engineering. Post-graduate degree preferred
  • 10+ years of broad and deep Product Innovation, Value Generation, and Cost optimization experience. The candidate will have progressive and increasing levels of responsibility and leadership accountability with a minimum of 10 years managing product programs and people.  Yogurt and/or Dairy technical experience is a plus

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Adept understanding of trends, sensory, consumer, analytical and physical testing methodologies, beverages, food and snacking categories, and dairy/non-dairy technologies. Demonstrated expertise in an area of specialization I at least two of the categories, related experience in the manufacturing of products, delivering points of difference and substantiating claims
  • Technical competence in ingredient functionality and process technology
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a group of leaders, create a vision, and influence across functional teams
  • Demonstrated leadership strength in capability development, stakeholder management and supplier relationships. Excellent communications skills to interact with general management at a senior level
  • Experience setting and driving strategic plans, making tough decisions and prioritizing delivery within a complex and dynamic business environment. Successfully executed programs from idea to implementation, completing the research and business case to drive the change
  • Strong- commercial acumen, technical development skills, judgment and understanding of the business and industry. Experience leading a product development function across multiple markets or countries preferred
  • Ideally a balanced background across Technical Brand Management and Supply Chain experience will be desirable. A mix of career experience across R&D, Quality, Procurement, and Operations management would be highly desirable
