Business Development Manager

Fulfill company growth requirements and maintain effective direction within the sales department, manage, grow the company in sales, customer base, markets served, profits, process orders, quotations, answer/manage customer inquiries and complaints, serve as liaison between sales and other departments.

Work to achieve maximum customer satisfaction, diversify customer base and increase sales and market share through product knowledge, processing customer inquiries, complaints and orders in a timely manner.  Maintain a strong relationship with key customers, vendors and other departments.  Keep the sales department continually tasked toward growth objectives and abreast of new methods for customer service and sales.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop a sales strategy to achieve organizational sales goals and revenues
  • Set individual sales targets with sales team
  • Delegate responsibility for customer accounts to sales personnel
  • Co-ordinate sales action plans for individual salespeople
  • Co-ordinate sales action plans for new customer pursuit by individual salespeople
  • Oversee the activities and performance of the sales team
  • Ensure sales team has the necessary resources to perform properly
  • Monitor and report the achievement of sales objectives by the sales team
  • Interact with other company functions to ensure achievement of sales objectives
  • Evaluate performance of sales staff
  • Provide feedback, support and coaching to the sales team
  • Hire staff, plan and direct sales team training
  • Assist with the development of sales presentations and proposals
  • Co-ordinate and monitor online sales activity
  • Investigate lost sales and customer accounts
  • Track, collate and interpret sales figures
  • Forecast annual, quarterly and monthly sales revenue
  • Generate timely sales reports to the department and entire company
  • Understand and manage pricing and outside competitive price factors
  • Know open market prices for products sold
  • Formulate sales policies and procedures
  • Help with and/or prepare sales forecasts
  • Propose inventory levels to support sales
  • Conduct market research and competitor and customer analysis
  • Analyze data to identify sales opportunities
  • Contribute in development of promotional ideas and material
  • Attend when asked by management trade meetings and industry conventions
  • Cultivate effective business relationships with executive decision makes in key accounts

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Business degree or related professional qualification
  • Experience in all aspects of planning and implementing sales strategy
  • Technical sales skills
  • Proven experience in customer relationship management
  • Knowledge and understanding of how markets and market segments function
  • Experience in managing and directing a sales team
  • Relevant product and industry knowledge or ability to assimilate quickly
  • Experience with relevant software applications
