The role is for an experienced Chemist within the Innovations R&D group.  You will be responsible for planning, conducting and reporting on chemical research aimed at discovering and developing new biopolymers and systems for use in food, beverages, industrial and personal care applications.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conceiving new ideas and developing scalable methods for the production of new products and/or novel derivatives of existing biopolymers via chemical, enzymatic or physical modification and to create unique systems for specific applications
  • The candidate will lead characterization and performance evaluation of new materials employing state of the art methods in polymer, physical and/or analytical chemistry
  • Works with others within a specified activity, project, business and/or technical area
  • Develops and applies knowledge of used to implement and/or improve tools, techniques and work processes
  • Solves problems and issues requiring a high level of technical knowledge and consideration of other disciplines
  • Proactively identifies problems and develops solutions
  • Serves on teams focused on highly complex or specialized projects
  • Influences and/or convinces others within the organization to reach agreement and accept new practices and approaches
  • May lead or supervise a small team or technical project

Requirements:

  • BS degree in chemistry or related science with 3-5 years of experience or master’s degree in chemistry with 1-3 years of experience. Experience with a focus on hydrocolloid/polysaccharide new product development and characterization is a plus
  • Individual contributor with knowledge in area of polysaccharide chemistry
  • Experience using physical and polymer chemistry characterization techniques
  • Effective report writing skills
  • Ability to propose and develop and validate new test methods
  • Basic use of professional concepts to resolve routine issues
  • Conducting defined work assignments and short-time tasks
  • Demonstrates capabilities to use scientific methods in experimental design
  • Applies technical concepts to complete projects
  • Identifies and analyses problems and develops appropriate solutions
  • Demonstrates specialized knowledge with the ability to incorporate technology from related disciplines
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills
  • Strong communicator
