Job Description

Chemist

The responsibilities of the Chemist will include the following:

  • Conducts experiments to improve upon or to duplicate various materials and substances and engages in research to develop new methods of processing or production
  • Plans, conducts, and may “lead and direct” large, important projects. Serves as advisor to lower-level personnel and may assist with the review and evaluation of personnel.  Trains personnel in routing and specialized laboratory procedures
  • Provides technical consultation to peers and other departments, especially production and Engineering
  • Evaluates progress and results and recommends major changes in procedures
  • Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge around specialization to the completion of significant assignments, operating with considerable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision
  • Maintains expertise in materials used in our products and insures we have the capability to analyze those materials
  • Ensures laboratory safety through maintenance of the Chemical Hygiene Plan
  • Performs product evaluation and field testing
  • Assists manufacturing in new product implementation through procedure development, troubleshooting, etc. Assist in process changes

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS/MS Degree in chemistry or related
  • Prefer 10+ years of experience with formulation of polymeric materials but would look at anyone with 5+ years of experience
  • Must have knowledge and experience in polymers and molding processes, especially water based / biodegradable systems
  • Must be able to operate standard pieces of testing and laboratory analytical equipment, and mixing / formulating equipment
  • Must be able to operate and render interpretation of IR, GC, DSC, and other testing equipment
  • Should be adept with computer, word processors, Excel, and Internet usage
