Coatings Corrosion Additives Formulations Scientist *

This is an exciting new position with a privately owned company where you can be involved in all aspects of developing new products!  From ideation, to bench, to full scale, and customer contact!  Opportunity to help grow this company.

We are looking for a highly skilled Formulation Scientist with a robust background in research and development of products, specifically in corrosion inhibitors and inorganic chemistry.  The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge in formulating, wet chemistry, characterization, scientific principles, statistics, design of experiments, and will work closely with operations to scale up products and develop product data sheets and set specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Research and Development:

  • Lead the research and development of new products with a focus on corrosion inhibitors, redox reactions, and inorganic chemistry.
  • Utilize strong working knowledge in formulating, wet chemistry, characterization, and scientific principles.
  • Implement design of experiments and statistical analysis to optimize product development.
  • Test formulations for efficacy in various coatings and effectiveness in inhibition corrosion on various metal substrates.
  • Perform corrosion inhibition and environmental weathering, utilizing test methods such as salt spray, corrosion testing, accelerated weathering.

Product Scale-Up and Documentation:

  • Collaborate with operations to scale up products from lab-scale to production.
  • Develop detailed product data sheets and set specifications to ensure product quality and consistency.

Team Mentorship:

  • Mentor junior chemists, fostering their professional growth and development.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior team members, ensuring their successful contribution to projects.

Technical Communication and Presentation:

  • Write comprehensive technical documents and reports.
  • Present findings to clients and suppliers effectively.
  • Represent the company by presenting technical papers and documents at industry trade shows and conferences.

Salary

$70,000 - $110,000

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS 5-15 years of experience in developing and formulating corrosion additives for the direct to metal coatings market using DOE.
  • Ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of corrosion protection additives in coatings.
  • Comfortable working in a small company environment and wearing many hats.
  • Must be independent and have a history of developing a product from concept to full scale and working with customers to develop solutions.
  • Safety focused environment, integrity and strong communication skills.
