This is an exciting new position created to support business growth of this privately owned bespoke coatings manufacturer. If you’ve had a few years of experience in the paint industry as a Product Manager, we should TALK! As the Senior Product Manager, you will research, develop, plan, and execute on the full life cycle of their products – from launch, growth and through end-of-life. This role partners closely with R&D, Sales, Manufacturing, Purchasing & Shipping, Quality, and Marketing to ensure products meet customer needs and profitability targets.
Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role
- Driving the Product Life Cycles to Meet/Exceed Profit Goals: 80% of the Job
- Researches, develops, plans, and executes on product roadmap and lifecycle strategy to ensure customer needs, volume targets, and profit margins are met or exceeded.
- Manages the day-to-day product life cycle process and tasks to ensure customer and profit goals are achieved.
- Analyzes market, distributor, customer, and competitive landscapes to understand company competitive advantages / value proposition and identify product gaps and growth opportunities.
- Manages the P&L performance for the products, including direct and distribution models, along with economic trends (i.e. inflation, tariffs, etc.), to create pricing strategies that will deliver the margins, volume targets, and overall profit dollars goals.
- Partners with Sales to understand customer pain points and emerging application needs to ensure product purchasing plans are aligned.
- Reviews, provides reporting and recommends business cases for product changes based on market and customer shifts.
- Develops product segmentation and pricing strategies based on customer size / type and associated product solutions and pricing that fit their specific needs.
- Develops, manages, and uses data analytics to report on the volume and profit forecasting (with associated assets, labor costs, etc.) for the product lines, providing insights and strategies to ensure overall profitability dollars are met.
- Leads cross-functional teams on new product development launches to ensure they meet or exceed anticipated sales and profit expectations.
- Works with R&D to understand compliance factors with industry standards and regulations.
- Leads and guides Marketing on branding, promotions, and demand generation initiatives aligned to optimal profitability.
- Works as a Tier 2 resource for the Customer Service team resource for the Customer Service team and trusted advisor to management on advanced / complex product and pricing questions from the customers and internal team.
- Attend trade show events, customer meetings, presentations, etc. to represent their brand and be a credible resource for the team.
Salary
$80,000 - $95,000 + Bonus
Technical Factors:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Business, or a similar field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- 5+ years’ experience in managing product life cycles, preferably in a similar industry of coatings, specialty chemicals, etc.
- Project Management certifications or training would be a plus.
- Strong ability to research, develop, plan and execute on strategies that will drive success with the product life cycles in achieving optimal profitability
- Strength in managing cross-functional project teams and multiple projects effectively.
- Strong financial acumen and proven ability to manage P&L and drive margin growth.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and solution skills to identify, recommend, and solve business problems to unlock profit potential.
- Ability to function in both strategic and technical lanes (hands on role).
- Ability to analyze KPIs, generate reports, and leverage data insights.
- Creative in thinking to create new product marketing ideas that will drive profitability.
- Proficiency in ERP systems.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Power BI) for data analysis, reporting, and communications.
- Ability to understand the technical aspects of the products and how the chemistries influence strengths and weaknesses in the offerings.
