Commercialization Scientist

This is a new position, responsible for supporting company Nutrition customers (internal and external) in providing accurate technical documentation, co-packer information and technical support for the commercialization of their products.  This position will coordinate with the company Nutrition Beverage Product Development & Application (PD&A) teams.  The Commercialization Scientist role requires an ongoing understanding of beverage plant processes and will be responsible for obtaining co-packer information for customers on co-packers that can produce the products company Nutrition has developed.  The Commercialization Scientist will be a key part of the Commercialization Team and provide technical support for test runs and initial production runs as requested.  The position will work with customer’s co-packers to ensure quality products are produced to customer expectations.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:

  • Attend customers’ beverage test runs and plant startups to ensure that the products utilizing company Nutrition ingredients are batched according to directions stated on MI
  • At beverage test runs solve formulation problems (such as Brix, acid or missing specifications), processing problems, and make decisions regarding whether to proceed, if these issues can only be partially addressed
  • Assist Beverage Scientists and Beverage Q.C. in the resolving of customers’ production problems and/or formulation issues
  • Report in writing to customers and internally on the results of the test runs or startups
  • Review Manufacturing Instructions (MI) for accuracy on ingredient amounts and processes. Ensuring that the formula is manufacturable and stable
  • Coordinates with Beverage Scientist and Technicians in sending control samples to co-packers for test runs and start-ups
  • Assist in writing beverage quality manuals as requested by key accounts. Keep manuals updated
  • Domestic travel up to 50%

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science or Food Science, supplemented with a minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years relevant work experience in manufacturing and/or quality control with an in-depth knowledge of beverage processing. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Proven ability to work effectively within a team-based work environment with superior verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Experience in production runs and quality control
  • Experience in Sensory
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-packers, customers and coworkers. Individual must be committed to corporate ethics policies & safety programs
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with foundation of knowledge with ingredient interaction
  • Willingness and ability to travel with little notice
  • Demonstrated capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment and results driven to provide support and achieve goals established by the division
  • Proven ability to assess business and financial risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions
