Consumer Products Sr. Scientist / Technical Lead

The Consumer Products Sr. Scientist / Technical Lead will function as a key product development scientist responsible for development of seasoning blends and finished products (application include sauces and dips, side dishes, desserts, soups, baking, and nutrition products such as meal replacers and sports nutrition) which are packaged for final consumer use.  Provide technical guidance and work prioritization for product development and innovation efforts.  Serve as a technical resource for company strategy development and cross-functional initiatives.  Ensure all job activities are done in a manner that supports personnel safety, food safety, and quality standards.

*Provide mentoring and feedback to staff, and foster an environment for professional growth of each team member.

*Facilitate programs and activities for employee engagement.

*Manage reactive and proactive workflow for food scientists in the Consumer Products Lab.

*Provide training and educational opportunities, and ensure scientists' job performance meets stated expectations.

*Foster strong cross-functional relationships and ways-of-working.

*Provide technical expertise and serve as a resource in areas such as product and process development and optimization, consumer packaging configuration, sensory evaluation, ingredient functionality and interactions, and quality validation.

*Own product development and project execution for designated key accounts.

*Identify suppliers for new raw materials, ensuring quality, taste and labeling requirements are met, and compliance to regulatory and labeling specifications is achieved.

*Establish the QA specifications and blend instructions for each product formula.

*Attend first-run productions for new products and consult with operations personnel on recommendations for efficient manufacturing and first-pass quality of product formulas.

*Consult with consumer product packaging team to deliver on customer standards for product quality.

*Consult with sales and the customer as required for successful project execution.

*Follows documented procedures for CRM system and commercialization process, and recommends continual improvements to procedures and processes.

*Support customer engagement programs through development of on-trend prototypes and participation in ideation and marketing programs.

*Collaborate with sales to establish constructive working relationships between consumer products scientists and customers.

*Validate new technologies in application and processing, and develop concepts and prototypes to demonstrate innovation and technology advancements.

*Lead and participate in company strategic initiatives and cross-functional teams.

*Implement Best Practices for continual improvement and efficiencies.

*Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field; Master / PhD degree preferred

*5+ years of previous experience in food product development across a broad range of food product development across a broad range of food products

*Experience working with operations is a major plus

*Ability to manage multiple projects, in a team of up to 3 direct reports, in a fast paced environment

*Excellent verbal and written communication skills

*Self-directed, enthusiastic, and passionate about customers

*Works well in cross-functional team environment

*Able to focus on achieving the company's strategic goals

*A good mentor who shares knowledge openly and naturally, and encourages others to do so

*Strong problem solving skills

*Works effectively in a general business environment as well as a lab environment
