Customer Innovation Applications Specialist

The Customer Innovation Senior Applications Specialist position manages the product development process from concept to commercialization of chocolate and confectionery coatings/products while working in state-of-the-art facilities and working with the top food companies. The individual will work directly with sales and technical contacts at major food companies to formulate chocolate confectionery products/coatings designed to meet the sensory and nutritional requirements of the project. The individual will also work closely with operations, engineering and other internal cross functional teams to develop new innovative products and execute operational excellence. The individual will be required to fully understand the manufacturing process and the impact that various formulations and physical parameters have on processing.  The Customer Innovation Applications Specialist is responsible for:

  • Co-developing, formulating and implementing a range of chocolate confectionery applications relevant to the functional performance of company’s fats and oils, serving as a participant, leader and project manager (depending on the specifics of the initiative)
  • Evaluating / driving the implementation of company’s fat’s and oils in chocolate confectionery products and any other food applications to meet the business needs for growth profitability
  • Interfacing directly with the customers and acting as technical lead on key customer projects
  • Coordinating and participating in key customer product presentations
  • Working directly with customer technical departments in problem solving and trouble shooting at customer facilities
  • Participating in interactions with sales team and customers to provide appropriate product information; network with sales team to understand issues and opportunities
  • Analyzing data and preparing in presentation form for direct promotion of company’s products at customer facilities
  • Supporting new product launches by providing the technical basis for customer value added proposition

Requirements:

  • Requires BS or MS degree in food science or a related field with 8 or more years related experience
  • Previous experience with formulation of chocolate confectionary coatings / products and fats and oils is required
  • Knowledge of chocolate processing and hands-on experience with using chocolate processing equipment is required
  • Knowledge of fats and oils in human nutrition is desirable
  • Must demonstrate ability to plan and manage a project through all phases, including working collaboratively with cross functional teams to achieve common goals
  • Required to effectively communicate across all levels and functions within company and customer organizations
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of team members possessing varying levels of technical expertise in working toward common goals
