Digital Ink Chemist

The Digital Ink Chemist will have the following responsibilities:

  • R&D Lab functions include:
  1. Creating innovative inks for different markets
  2. Continuously keeping up to date with new market trends and new technological changes in the analytical and chemical industry
  3. Analyzing and characterizing dispersions/inks
  4. Testing and profiling of components and formulations
  5. Test batch production
  6. Print testing
  7. Reporting information to the R&D Manager, Product Development Manager and Sales
  8. Maintenance and calibration of equipment
  9. Keeping an organized notebook
  10. Keeping an organized and clean lab area
  • Working under a minimum amount of direct supervision, carries out research and development assignments that are relatively broad in nature, usually requiring considerable knowledge of particular field of chemical specialization
  • Teaching and helping grow technicians in their understanding of the chemistry and physics of inks. Coordinating projects with technicians to provide them weekly work plans
  • Is responsible for adherence to the company Employee Handbook and company’s Standards of Conduct
  • It is the responsibility of all employees to adhere to the guidelines established in the company Quality Management System. These guidelines are based on the ISO Standard and can be found in the Level I company Quality Manual and the Level II company Quality Procedure Manual located on the Prism eSolutions website.  Work area and environment will be maintained according to the 5S guidelines and the 5S Best Practices at the respective facilities
  • Must be committed to a high standard of Environmental, Health & Safety practices and be willing and able to comply with all EHS laws and all of the employer’s EHS policies and rules and must be willing to report EHS violations and potential EHS violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel. This may include participation in company EHS programs such as safety committees & required environmental regulatory plans
  • Travel is less than 5%

Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD degree in Chemistry or related (advanced degree preferred)
  • Extensive knowledge in rheology and experience in colloidal / interfacial science desired. Experience in the printing industry, specifically ink and/or substrate related, is highly desired – specifically solvent water-based and/or energy curable inkjet inks and coatings
  • Apply advanced mathematical concepts and to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis
  • Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulae, scientific equations, graphs)
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables and to conduct studies using the scientific method
  • Lead by example and reinforce a culture of excellence and positive behaviors with team members
  • Excellent customer service; self-directed, outgoing, personable and friendly
  • Project management skills
  • Willing to be hands-on at the bench
