Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Affairs

The Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Affairs will be responsible for maintaining the Food Safety and Regulatory Program at company’s facilities.  This includes their owned facilities, toll manufacturers and key suppliers.  This role will be responsible for the continuous improvement of food safety programs through risk assessments, reporting, regulatory labeling compliance of all finished products, food quality certification programs and oversight of food safety training.

This role will also create and oversee the FSMA Implementation & Compliance Plan to include communication and training of related requirements.  Primary support will be plant quality, product label reviews (with understanding of FDA guidelines for nutrition and supplement facts), support and administration of third-party program certifications (including the NOP for Organic products), an understanding of the products offered by company.

Our Director of Food Safety and Regulatory Affairs Will:

  • Keep abreast of matters relating to the production methods, formulations and application of the Company’s products. Remain current with federal regulations as they relate to the Company’s products, particularly with regards to animal feed drug usage, GMP’s and analytical requirements, and ensure that analytical requirements are met. 
  • Oversee compliance of all customer specification and documentation systems, ingredient, nutritional, and formula specifications, including kosher and organic certification programs
  • Develop employee education programs for specified Quality Assurance related topics such as FDA regulations and sanitation
  • Work jointly with R&D on the development and commercialization of new products to ensure they follow company policies, SOPs and specifications
  • Provides guidance for regulatory responses as needed
  • Create and oversee the FSMA Implementation Plan to include communication and training of related requirements
  • Collaborate in the commercialization of new products including needed certification documentation and label reviews
  • Maintaining both Federal/State regulatory and third-party certification compliance for Corporate and plant locations. There is also direct Corporate Quality plant oversight for the Nutraceutical Co-Manufacturing site
  • Develop quality programs for new products, facilities, or other items as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
  • 10+ years of relevant management experience in a multi-plant food manufacturing company both at the Plant and Corporate level
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to influence
  • Leadership and people management for the Regulatory support team
  • Understanding of regulatory and food law, including USDA Organic, CCOF, NSF, PMO, CFR 111, Kosher, Halal, non-GMO and Dry Dairy products
  • Food manufacturing required, and dairy industry experience is preferred
  • Strong operational knowledge of Corporate and Plant Quality Systems
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and computer software applications
  • Strong operational knowledge of SQF
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills
  • Previous supervisory and auditing experience
  • Project and Change Management Processes Knowledge
  • Excellent Microsoft Office applications experience
