EHS Manager

Chicago area organization looking for an EHS Manager with chemical experience with mix of both safety & environmental.  The ideal candidate will be a self-starter looking for a role where they will have autonomy.  Candidates looking to take their first step into a leadership role will be considered!

Job Description:

The EHS Manager will manage the development and implementation of environmental, health, safety and security, (EHS&S) programs.  This position will report to the Plant Manager and will be an integral member of the Plant Leadership Team, along with supervisory responsibility of one direct report (Environmental Coordinator).

Responsibilities:

• Will oversee and manage Hazard Materials to include evaluating and improving processes and protocol to ensure efficiency and compliance
• Conduct incident investigations and drive employee participation
• Participate in Compliance Audits, Emergency Planning and Response, and Training of employees
• Ensures alignment with Corporate EHS initiatives and objectives. Maintains close communications with Corporate EHS for collaboration and guidance as required
• Manages communication with all local, state and government regulatory agencies
• Oversees and manages Title V Permit Process
• Ensures all environmental compliance and permitting are current
• Manages the safety training programs including providing direction and continuous improvement to meet safety, environmental and operational training requirements
• Oversees health and industrial hygiene programs (health screening, hearing exams, IH monitoring)
• Manages EHS Tracking system; finds areas for improvement and includes other EHSS programs as needed; tracks corrective actions and works with supervision on timely closure
• Tracks EHS&S data to find areas of improvement and implement actions accordingly
• Manages EHS&S budget; tracks costs and communicates to management; finds opportunities for cost savings (Six Sigma & Lean)
• Reviews all plant maintenance and capital modifications to ensure compatibility with the overall EHS and PSM compliance
• Identifies, interprets and reviews EHS&S legal and other requirements and implements programs / procedures to ensure compliance
• Works to ensure the mechanical integrity of the fire safety system and plant infrastructure
• Oversees the Contractor safety program

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. Degree in Environmental Science, Safety Engineering, or related field
• 5 years’ experience performing EHS&S within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional safety and/or environmental certifications (CSP, CSSE, OHST, etc.)
