EHS Manager
My established client is looking for an EHS Manager with a mix of environmental and safety experience to join their leadership team.
The EHS Manager is responsible for management of all safety and environmental activities and programs for the site. This person is the plant liaison in dealing with all environmental issues whether they be with Corporate, Regulators, Community, or inter-plant.
The EHS Manager is also a member of the company’s Safety and Environmental Team and will assist the Team with various projects throughout the year. The EHS Manager reports to the Site Director.
Management of safety and environmental issues includes ensuring safety and environmental regulatory compliance is maintained at the facility; coordinating and supervising periodic environmental and regulatory reviews/audits; reviewing and interpreting environmental regulations and disseminating appropriate information to plant people; developing and conducting or assisting with environmental training; developing and maintaining company-wide policies and procedures for safety and environmental compliance; and assisting or overseeing any safety or environmental special projects at the facility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the safe and effective operation of the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Conduct periodic internal Environmental audits.
- Develop, train-on, and implement programs, policies, and procedures in support of regulatory and company-driven Environmental initiatives.
- Conduct MOC review of system, process, procedure, equipment, material or resource changes.
- Provide guidance and support to site management.
- Perform hazardous and non-hazardous waste profiling and scheduling, purchase requisition submittal, transport disposal, tracking.
- Review and verification of environmental fees and submittal for processing.
- Hosts all government agencies, both state and federal for visits and inspections and drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
- Develop, coordinate, and submit required reports and information to regulatory agencies.
- Develop, coordinate, and submit information in support of environmental permit applications, revisions, and/or renewals, as required.
- Support RMP/PSM compliance activities.
- Respond to emergency calls regarding safety or environmental incidents and recommend appropriate actions to mitigate situation, including notification of appropriate agencies, if applicable.
- Conducts monthly and annual safety training required by company and all regulatory agencies.
- Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
- Monitors compliance with safety procedures and reports corporate required metrics.
- Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
- Responsible for environmental monitoring and reporting.
- Maintains records of safety incidents, spills, discharge of or employee exposure to chemical non- hazardous or hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
- Participate in regulatory agency inspections and lead follow-up activities.
- Prepare corrective action plans to address Environmental audit findings.
- Track outstanding audit items from agency inspections, customer audits, self-audits and other reviews through to completion.
- Prepare cyclical reports to management to indicate updated progress against corresponding action goals, management of change implementation, and waste shipments.
- Assist with environmental projects required for conformance with planned facility compliance goals (e.g. secondary containment upgrades, wastewater oil/water separator, etc.).
- Ensure that environmental control equipment is well maintained and operated in accordance with legislative and corporate environmental requirements.
- Develop and implement environmental training programs. Review existing training programs for compliance with regulations and facility permits. Provide training in specific areas where needed.
- Prepare or update plans associated with environmental permits and regulations, such as the Storm water Pollution Prevention Plan, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures
- Plan, Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan, Emergency Response Plan, etc.
- Participate actively and effectively on the Safety & Environmental Teams.
- Develop and manage Pollution Prevention & Waste Minimization Programs.
- Ensure that all waste disposal is in accordance with the legislative and corporate environmental requirements.
- Take positive actions to improve Environmental performance through reduced waste generation, reduced air emissions, reduced utility requirements, and improved liquid effluent quality.
- Ensure that all contractors working/operating under jobholder’s control are operating in accordance with legislative and corporate Environmental requirements.
- To assist in ensuring that a suitable level of housekeeping is maintained, so as to provide a safe, clean working environment.
- Conduct periodic environmental audits of waste treatment/disposal/recycling facilities.
- Develop and periodically revise audit protocols. Provide guidance on selecting waste facilities.

Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 5 to 10 years of HS&E experience within a chemical production facility or demonstrated relevant experience (i.e., refineries or other industrial or process industry facilities)
- People oriented with strong knowledge of customer service. Organization and prioritization skills. Ability to function in a small company culture and assist in special projects
- In addition, the EHS Manager must have the following skill requirements:
- Air, Title V, Water, and Waste Discharge Permit application development
- Risk Management Program (RMP) development and maintenance
- SARA Title III / Tier II Report preparation
- Regulatory reporting (Air, water, wastewater, solid waste, CWC, etc.)
- RCRA hazardous waste manifesting
- Environmental audit coordination
- Environmental incident investigation and reporting
- Support operator training on environmental & HSE topics as needed
- Procedure development
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and inter-personal skills
- Demonstrated ability to implement organizational change
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good mathematical and analytical abilities
- Ability to acti independently and on one’s own initiative
- Ability to interface with internal and external customers and senior company management
Other Requirements:
- All company personnel are required to participate in all Corporate Safety Training Programs and any site-specific safety training and policies
Language Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions. Ability to write simple instructions. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and pass along pertinent information to other employees, higher management, and regulatory agencies. Ability to write detailed reports as required
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate percentages and perform simple algebraic functions
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in solving problems. Basic troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills
