EHS Specialist

The EHS Specialist will support the organizations facilities by ensuring compliance with OSHA/MIOSHA, EPA, RCRA, EPCRA, and internal safety standards.  This is a hands-on non-manager role focused on day-to-day safety, environmental compliance, training, incident investigation, and maintaining a strong safety culture across the sites.

The role is designed for a practical, detail-oriented professional who can independently manage compliance tasks while collaborating with the corporate EHS team.

Main Duties & Responsibilities (Simplified)

  • Ensure day-to-day compliance with SOA/MIOSHA and EPA requirements at the facility as well as providing remote EHS support.
  • Maintain and update safety programs including HazCom, LOTO, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Prevention, and PPE.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Manage RCRA hazardous waste labeling, storage, inspections, and documentation.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting: OSHA logs, EPCRA Tier II, RCRA Biennial Report.
  • Maintain SDS database and chemical hazard communication systems.
  • Conduct or coordinate EHS training for employees and new hires.
  • Support incident reporting, investigations, root-cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
  • Maintain EHS documentation, compliance records, and safety logs.
  • Track and report EHS KPIs (injuries, near misses, waste, training performance).
  • Assist with emergency preparedness activities and maintain emergency response equipment.
  • Provide safety guidance to supervisors and employees; help reinforce a strong safety culture.
  • Collaborate with corporate EHS on global programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external vendors, consultants, waste providers, and regulatory agencies as needed.
  • Travel occasionally for audits, training, or investigations.

Salary

$60,000 - $80,000

Education & Skills Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Safety, or related field.
  • 2-5 years of EHS experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • OSHA & MIOSHA regulations
    • Hazard Communication (HCS/GHS)
    • RCRA hazardous waste
    • Basic environmental compliance (EPA)
  • Experience conducting inspections, incident investigations, and delivering safety training.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and interact effectively with operators and supervisors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
