Elastomer Chemist

Focuses on advancing materials innovation through direct research and problem solving in the laboratory.  Develops methods for material preparation and testing.  Coordinates and conducts daily research activities with the other lab staff.  Produces meaningful results on focused materials innovation initiatives.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Perform laboratory tests according to established procedures, and with minor modifications
  • Review procedures prior to beginning tasks
  • Update procedures as needed
  • Create new or modified nanomaterial samples using new approaches
  • Safely conduct novel experiments
  • Compile and interpret data, calculate results, report findings in the form of memo/report, and maintain accurate records (LIMS)
  • Create tabular and graphical representations of generated data
  • Write technical reports
  • Generate Power Point presentations as needed
  • Contribute in generation and evaluation of new ideas
  • Regularly contribute in the ideation stage
  • Lead evaluation of new ideas
  • Maintain safety and appearance of Laboratory
  • Develop safety evaluation and improvement for lab
  • Perform task to properly handle and dispose nanomaterials and solvents

Requirements:

  • BS Chemistry with 3-5 years of related experience or Masters in polymer / rubber / coating science / engineering
  • Knowledge of polymer, coatings, elastomer, organic chemistry
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to conduct training
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work with multiple cultures and national origins
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Previous research experience on a related field e.g. carbon nanotubes, graphene, nanomaterials, conductive organic materials
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, self-motivated, and a team player
  • Being able to lead by example and effectively communicate technical information by means understandable to all levels of the Specialty Blacks organization is a must
  • Ability to work with multiple cultures and national origins
  • Ability to work both within a team and independently, self-starter
