Position Title: Employee Benefits Compliance Associate Attorney

Location: Philadelphia, PA (Hybrid Schedule)

Compensation: $160,000 – $210,000 (commensurate with experience)

 

Overview: A leading law firm is seeking an Employee Benefits Compliance Associate Attorney to join its Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation practice group. The ideal candidate will have experience advising clients on a broad range of employee benefits matters, including tax-qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, and health and welfare benefit plans. This role offers a hybrid work schedule, competitive compensation, and the opportunity to work with a collaborative, highly experienced team.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise employers and plan sponsors on the design, implementation, and compliance of qualified and nonqualified retirement plans (including 401(k), pension, and ESOP plans).
  • Provide counsel on employee welfare benefit plans, including compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Assist with executive compensation and nonqualified deferred compensation arrangements, including compliance with Internal Revenue Code Sections 409A, 457, and 280G.
  • Draft and review plan documents, summary plan descriptions, and related compliance materials.
  • Support clients through IRS and DOL audits, correction programs, and filings.
  • Collaborate with corporate, tax, and employment teams on benefits issues related to mergers, acquisitions, and other corporate transactions.

 

Qualifications:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in Pennsylvania (or ability to waive in).
  • 3–7 years of experience in employee benefits and executive compensation law, preferably within a law firm or consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, and related federal regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong client service orientation.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

 

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid schedule (approximately 2–3 days per week onsite in the Philadelphia office).
