EHS Director

Our well-established and growing client is hiring a strategic EHS Director.  This leadership role will partner with 9 facilities in central WI and IL to drive EHS excellence.  The ideal candidate would have 7 plus years in food, pulp & paper, or a heavy industrial manufacturing environment and experience leading at multiple sites.  This is a strategic level position that will collaborate with cross functional teams while being a partner to drive success at the plants.  The role will have up to 75% travel and will be based out of a manufacturing facility in the east central WI area.  If you’re interested in learning more, let’s connect!

The Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) is responsible for overseeing and integrating all aspects of environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple facilities at the company.  This role encompasses leadership in developing, implementing, and continuously improving EHS initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and fostering a culture of safety and sustainability.  The Director will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, serve as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies, and play a pivotal role in strategic initiatives within the Operations leadership team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and promote a comprehensive safety and health culture throughout all of the company facilities
  • Facilitate the alignment of objectives across facilities to ensure all locations are focused on accomplishing their goals
  • Be a leader who can align measurable goals across multiple locations to achieve a common goal
  • Understand environmental regulations including but not limited to EPA and WDNR permitting as it applies to land applications of waste, wastewater treatment and disposal
  • Design, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety, health, and environmental programs, including but not limited to process safety management, confined space, lock-out tag-out, and hot work
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and corporate standards
  • Serve as the primary Health and Safety representative with government agencies to ensure compliance and address regulatory issues
  • Manage incident investigations to true root cause, ensure timely reporting, and implementation of effective corrective actions
  • Oversee the development and executing of training programs for employees at both plant and corporate levels to ensure competency in safety and environmental practices
  • Collaborate closely with the Sustainability team to ensure alignment and support in environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and waste minimization efforts
  • Prepare reports as needed for the monthly Executive Safety Council (ESC) meetings and drive continuous improvement through safety committee initiatives
  • Using Evotix Software, monitor and analyze Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to safety, health, and environmental performance
  • Serve as a resource for new capital projects to identify and address potential safety and health issues
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development to the EHS team
  • Participate in special assignments such as corporate EHS audits, new facility pre-startup safety reviews, and strategic projects as directed
  • Lead 2-3 EHS focus groups to accomplish the goals of the group to build capabilities within the group and company

Salary

$130,000 - $150,000

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupation Health, Safety, Environmental Sciences, or related field re. Masters
  • In depth knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to safety, health, and environmental compliance
  • Proven ability to lead and drive cultural change towards safety excellence and environmental stewardship
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all organizational levels
  • Proficiency in utilizing software tools for data analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Willingness to travel to various plant locations as needed
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred
