Environmental Supervisor

The scope of the position will include providing permit compliance leadership with regards to NPDES permit and upcoming projects dealing with permit obligations.  This person shall possess excellent troubleshooting and technical knowledge of spray field operations, waste streams, storm water, and the ability to motivate key facility personnel dealing with permitted activities.  Multi-tasking is required including excellent communication skills.  Essential duties and responsibilities to include:

  • Prepare and propose annual budget, annual variable account budgets, assist with spray field equipment capital plan and capital purchase proposals
  • Develop plans to meet unexpected situations, assessing factors and conditions affecting spray field activities, responding appropriately and communicating those findings to all interested parties
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and rules. Recommend safety, regulatory compliance procedures and standard practices in order for all maintenance work and spray field operations
  • Prepare all permit obligated submittals which include eDMR’s, Storm Water Permit, Spray Irrigation yearend report, and work with Procurement group with IBP yearend report and silage stack compliance auditing
  • Provide guidance and direction to spray field employees
  • Assign schedules and work duties to all hourly operators by oral and written work orders assuring permit requirements are maintained and documented properly
  • Assist Maintenance Manager in personnel performance (both daily and annually). Assist in developing efficient assignments of responsibility and performance expectations to hourly spray field operators
  • Assist with OSHA training for spray field operators including but not limited to: LOTO, SPCC, HOTWORK, 6’s, etc.
  • Improve spray field productivity by reducing downtime. Monitor accurate record keeping for permit compliance, downtime, and an account of specific work functions performed
  • Assist in the development and implementation of special projects
  • Develop, administer and maintain a Preventative Maintenance program and Compliance program
  • Supervise regulatory compliance of Spray Irrigation Operations and IBP handling operations
  • Assist in ensuring all products produce meet quality and food safety requirements
  • Provide daily leadership of spray field personnel
  • Assist with creating Action Plans with permit nonconformities
  • Maintain and update work orders and inspections through Comply and EAM
  • Assist in daily and weekly timekeeping functions of spray field associates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Type IV and Type V certification through the MPCA or equivalent wastewater training
  • Five or more years of mechanical experience in the areas of electrical, hydraulic and mechanical systems
  • Excellent understanding of the spray field equipment
  • Ability in assisting in the efficient use of spray field equipment
  • Development of Preventive Maintenance programs
  • Compliance work order scheduling (daily, weekly, monthly, yearly)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software including: Email, internet, Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Experience in Alchemy, EAM, and CDC a plus
