Formulation Chemist – Epoxy and Polyurethane
A specialized mid-size chemical manufacturer is seeking a degreed chemist with a minimum of 5+ years of experience in epoxies and polyurethanes for a niche technology. The company is growing, and this is a great opportunity to join this organization!
We are seeking a Formulation Chemist to develop high-performance epoxy and polyurethane products for the electrical and electronics markets. This role involves formulating potting compounds, adhesives, sealants, and industrial coatings while providing technical support to customers. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in epoxy and polyurethane formulation.
- Lead the development of commercially viable new products
- Formulate electrical potting compounds, adhesives, sealants, and industrial coatings (100% solids and waterborne)
- Conduct testing and validation to ensure products meet customer specifications and industry standards
- Troubleshoot product issues and provide technical support to customers
- Expand company’s product portfolio by exploring new technologies and chemistries
- Work with epoxy, urethane, polyurea, and waterborne chemistry, including acrylic and urethane dispersions, and PVA
- Develop formulations that enhance thermal conductivity, flame resistance, stress relief, electrical insulation, and environmental/chemical resistance while meeting UL and third-party testing requirements
- Optimize formulations for performance and cost to maintain a competitive edge
- Work closely with Sales, Management, R&D Chemists, and Lab Technicians to align development efforts with business needs
- Provide technical information to support regulatory compliance
- Assist Production in improving processing capabilities and quality control
- Evaluate new opportunities and recommend existing products when applicable
- Stay updated on emerging technologies relevant to company’s industry
- Coordinate external testing and contract laboratories as needed
- Ability to translate customer needs into actionable formulations
- Work with vendors and industry contacts to drive innovation

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- BS in science related field, would consider MS and PhD
- 5-15 years of relevant epoxy and polyurethane formulation experience
- Proficiency with viscometers, TMA, DSC, TGA, Instron, FTIR, and other standard lab equipment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities in a laboratory setting
