Job Description

Formulation Chemist

The duties and responsibilities of the Formulation Chemist will include:

  • Independently formulate and optimize a wide range of aerosol and liquid products
  • Create appropriate project timelines with defined milestones
  • Conduct appropriate experiments and testing to meet objectives outlined by the project engineer
  • Understand and utilize test methods that meet or exceed industry standards
  • Analyze product performance and stability test results and present findings to internal and external project stakeholders
  • Seek out new formulation insights that can be applied to current and future development projects
  • Provide cross functional support in the following areas:
    • Sales and Business Development: Ensure projects are developed within budget and aligned with minimum component purchases
    • Quality Assurance: Troubleshoot manufacturing issues and quality complaints along with the quality manager
    • Procurement: In conjunction with the supply chain lead, build and manage relationships with raw material vendors and external technical consultants
    • Production: Work with manufacturing to convert lab scale development projects to commercial production
    • Regulatory and EH&S: Confirm all products adhere to relevant regulations and safety standards
    • Draft accurate project information, formulations, and specifications
    • Ensure physical stability, efficacy, package compatibility and consumer appeal for all developed products
    • Maintain strong working relationships with company and work cross-functionally to identify project opportunities

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related science
  • Minimum 3-5 years of formulation experience in aerosol or liquid products
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other regulatory guidelines
  • Proficient with databases, spreadsheets, and graphing software
