Ink R&D Project Manager

As the Ink R&D Project Manager, you will lead a multi-functional Research & Development team responsible for delivering the material and process technologies to meet design and functional decoration requirements for the auto interiors industry.  Technical work streams for program will include optical testing and modeling, reliability testing and modeling, ink formulation, and decoration process development.  In addition to driving our internal R&D work streams, you will engage with our external ink suppliers, and establish partnerships to bring the new decoration solutions to mass production.  Day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Overall leadership of a multi-functional project team for decoration on glass
  • Develops materials and processes to meet customer requirements
  • Defines and manages global work streams across R&D labs and plants
  • Sets project deliverables and plans, and aligns with Commercial and Engineering/Manufacturing objectives
  • Utilizes innovation tools for project execution
  • Engages external supply chain partners against deliverables to Division and Corporate stakeholders
  • Oversees expense and capital spending, and prioritizes work as needed
  • Leads team to build fundamental understanding of relationships between ink formulation and attributes
  • 25% travel, including international travel. 25% includes international; 25% is max; it will be one week every 4-6 weeks; 8-10 trips per year for a week at a time; 4 of them will be international
  • Will need flexibility for evening hours as needed to manage a global team, including Asia

Job Requirements


  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or in Material Science (with a focus in Polymers)
  • 10+ years R&D experience with polymers chemistry, ink formulation, and decoration processes, including technical leadership
  • Experience in technology transfers to engineering and/or external supply chain partners
  • Deep knowledge of ink decoration on glass, including materials and processes
  • Accomplished in leading technical programs with a track record of successfully delivering solutions to manufacturing
  • Demonstrated ability to align technical plans and deliverables with business and manufacturing objectives
  • Experience leading technical execution of global, multi-functional teams
  • Able to lead in a dynamic business environment that includes ambiguity
  • Strong communication skills, including experience leading technical interactions with supply chain partners and customers
  • Ability to set priorities for the team based on customer needs
  • Leads team through structured problem-solving and decision-making processes

Desired Skills:

  • Auto Industry experience (new business development for auto an asset)
  • Experience with Innovation Execution tools
  • Deep knowledge of display and glass technologies
  • Proven ability to work well within diverse organization
  • Technical breadth. Able to learn new technologies quickly to lead dynamic team and engage customers in a wide range of topics
