Lab Manager - Latex Rubber Chemist
Job Description
Growing company is seeking a Lab Manager for their natural rubber latex business. Work collaboratively and independently here. Company is investing in updated equipment and improving processes.
- Thorough understanding of mixing and processing requirements to make liquid latex for mold making in adhesive applications, including latex evaporation processes
- Provides daily direction and communication to the Quality Control Technicians including hiring, firing, performance reviews, time off requests, timesheets, and training.
- Design and perform laboratory experiments; as directed, to develop specific chemistry systems.
- Ability to perform laboratory experiments as directed by the VP of R&D
- Thoughtfully perform experiments independently to arrive at a goal stated by the VP of R&D
- Record and maintain all lab work in a lab notebook.
- Assist with QC tests as needed.
- Interact with production personnel on pilot batches and production problems.
- Interact with sales personnel to understand existing product issues/uses and product development needs.
- Interact with customers and assist with technical support questions and inquiries.
- Keep laboratory work area neat and uncluttered.
- Organize and maintain chemical sample storage racks.
- Understand hazards of chemicals through company provided training and reading MSDSs and labels.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment (e.g., gloves and safety glasses) and following all safety rules.
- Report safety concerns immediately to your supervisor.
- Work within cross functional teams to enable new product development project success.
- Assist with troubleshooting, application development and commercialization.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or higher
- 5-10 years of experience with latex formulation
- 2-3 years of management experience, a plus
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to read, write and speak in English.
- Self-motivated
