Lab Manager / Process Chemist

The Lab Manager / Process Chemist will have the following responsibilities:

Technical Contribution:

  • Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to establish quality and reliability expectancy of finished products
  • Provide, and oversee, inspection activity for product throughout production cycle by measuring production, documenting evidence, determining operational and performance qualification
  • Validate quality processes by establishing product specifications and quality attributes
  • Work with Quality Manager to validate procedures and work instructions for AS9100 quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives
  • Work with Quality Manager to help resolve issues related to lab or operations processes and develop improvements
  • Ensure lab testing and process compliance with specifications and customer documentation requirements
  • Provide statistical expertise to operations and technical teams
  • Collaborate with other members of management to develop new product and engineering designs, and manufacturing and training methods

Leadership & Communication:

  • Develop, optimize and manage QC Lab Testing plans, schedule & procedures to support 2 shifts of work to meet production demands, and respond to calls and business needs during both shifts
  • Coordinate objectives with production procedures in cooperation with other managers to maximize product reliability and minimize costs
  • Effectively communicate QC results
  • Lead QC lab personnel engaged in inspection and testing activities to ensure high productivity and high technical integrity
  • Maintain up to date batch and lot information and ensure it conforms with the data in ADAGE MRP Software
  • Evaluate and recommend best uses for MRP and how the information can be incorporated into the QC specifications
  • Must abide by company EH&S and business conduct policies / procedures

  • Minimum of BS in Chemistry or Engineering with 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of managing people
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100, NADCAP, and ISO required
  • Experience in the Aerospace coating, adhesives/sealants or composite industry preferred
  • TQM, Lean or Six Sigma Certification preferred
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Problem solving / analytical with focus on customer needs
  • Collaborative leadership and prioritization skills – this person will manage three qc technicians
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with internal and external customers
  • Independent project and time management
