Duties:
Develop solutions to technical problems and issues in the Microscopy Laboratory, including analysis, interpretation, and reporting of test results, to resolve product/process and customer problems. Conduct independent investigative work including R&D into new areas, and present results in interdepartmental meetings. Develop new test methods and provide training. Supervise work by Lab technicians, interns, and junior staff as assigned and assist them in resolving technical problems. Perform related responsibilities as directed. The Microscopy group has 4 staff plus the Group Leader.
Problem solving and technical support for global customers and plants on the order of 300 Laboratory Tests / 30 technical reports per year.
Potential for global plants, global NDP, global specialty, global external customers SEM / EDS, TEM / Image Analysis, Image Processing, XRD, IFM, LM, Various Sample Prep
- Use SEM/EDS to solve plant and customer technical support issues
- Use TEM (with Image Analysis) to characterize morphological differences and identify unknown carbon blacks and other materials
- Use LM (with Image Analysis) and IFM to image materials and characterize dispersions
- Use XRD to characterize graphitic carbons and identify unknown materials
- Develop and recommend new test methods for the laboratory
- Train laboratory personnel and assist them in solving technical problems
- Use various analysis methods to collaborate with external parties on R&D projects

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- Non-Degreed / BS with 7-8 years’ work in microscopy analysis of (inorganic materials) graphene / graphite / carbon or pigment particles for Batteries, Coatings, Composites, Plastics, SEM / EDS, TEM / Image Analysis, Image Processing, XRD, IFM, LM, Various Sample Prep
- Excellent communication and presentation skills – ability to conceive, plan, execute and interpret experiments independently
