Our client is a chemical manufacturer of a wide range of chemical-based products used in multiple different markets. They are in search of an Operations Engineer with the ability to handle an array of duties/responsibilities and collaborate with employees of all levels. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, problem solver with PSM experience.  This is a position that has promotion potential. 

  • Responsible for the day-to-day support of manufacturing in multiple chemical production areas.
  • Provide technical expertise to resolve any issues in production. Will become the Subject Matter Expert from a technical aspect for the facility.
  • Drive/participate root/cause analysis efforts & investigations and subsequent solutions when there are process upsets.
  • Review data sheets of all campaigns to identify any variances and perform any testing needed to make sure future runs are manufactured optimally.
  • Handle any manufacturing conflicts/tough situations that arise in production.
  • Identify productivity improvements in the plants and do necessary work to implement approved improvements.
  • Drive solutions to debottleneck any process problems and implement improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with the engineer group on any capital projects being installed in facility. Will act as the manufacturing rep for projects.
  • Other duties to include: participate/assist with training of Operators, Hazard Reviews, incident investigation implementation of management of change directives.
  • Work with the DCS technician on collecting data for analysis, optimization of the controls, etc.
  • Provide commissioning and start up assistance on projects.

Salary Range: up to $110,000/year plus 10% yearly bonus

Job Requirements

As an Operations Engineer requirements include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • B.S., Chemical Engineering degree
  • 3 - 8 years of chemical manufacturing experience
  • Strong chemical unit operations experience - filtration, batch reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, instrumentation and controls
  • Day-to-day support of production units and troubleshooting
  • Experience reviewing cycle time data, waste generation, operating costs, and yield data to find opportunities for improvement and implement solutions.
  • Working knowledge of PSM standard is necessary
  • Strong communication skills required (i.e. working with operators, maintenance personnel, engineers)
  • Participation in PHA re-validation and complete action item follow up
  • Small capital project execution would be ideal
  • Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing training ideal
