This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for the daily operation of one of two production areas in the plant and the supporting equipment and systems


  • Manage daily operations to ensure unit performance is aligned to business objectives, achieving budget and managing costs
  • Supervise Production Shift Supervisors
  • Review production reports, activity reports and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement or to identify areas needing quality, cycle time, cost reduction or process improvement
  • Optimize plant performance through appropriate utilization of manpower, equipment and resources
  • Ensure the Standard Operating Procedures and Processes are being utilized to meet product quality specifications
  • Implement programs and activities that provide a work environment that promotes a safe work environment, a culture of compliance, effective goal accomplishment, productivity and morale
  • Provide technical support, troubleshoot and resolve equipment and process issues when needed
  • Actively support the plant safety programs via participation and leadership in PHA, MOC, incident investigations, resolution of action items and other activities to ensure safe operations and regulatory compliance
  • Perform personnel functions such as selection, training, coaching and evaluation of direct reports
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reports detailing significant production activities and update on operating plan and objectives
  • Make regular rounds of units to ensure proper operations and correct unsafe acts or practices
  • Maintain familiarity of safe handling, regulatory compliance and emergency response for products in responsible production area
  • Monitor/maintain strong housekeeping and keep plant production area free from debris, spills and waste
  • Train, coach and mentor Production Shift Supervisors and Production Operators


  • B.S. Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or similar field with appropriate work experience
  • Eight (8) years of directly related work experience in a chemical plant environmentmust have chemical plant experience
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory/management experience in a chemical manufacturing plant
  • Solid experience in change management, process improvement and process optimization
  • Ability to lead and inspire especially during organizational changes or uncertain times
  • Ability to develop metric driven organization to calibrate efficiency and optimization
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving and providing solutions
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing at all organizational levels
  • Ability to clearly communicate problems and observations with management across departments
  • Ability to develop and maintain a team-based organizational structure
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects, including the ability to follow assignments through to completions and meet deadlines
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS Project
  • Must be able to work in a team environment as well as function independently
  • Willing to be accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to maintenance needs when needed
  • Able to respond to emergencies while off duty
