Organic Chemist

Global manufacturer is looking for a Research Scientist with a passion for developing new products related to industrial applications such as mineral flotation reagents, fertilizer coatings, and additives for asphalt road paving.  Primarily laboratory work, but also some limited field work.  Lab work will be focused on the synthesis of new products and conducting performance evaluations for existing and potential new business areas for the company.  Client has synthetic production expertise in synthesis of amides, imidazolines, esters and sulfonation of various organic molecules.  In this role you will help to expand these capabilities.  This position is full time and requires some overtime and weekend work.

  • Create, plan and execute a technical portfolio platform from concept to commercial launch
  • Perform safety audits both inside and outside of the technical organization
  • Develop a strategy that will protect the value of the company’s portfolio of patent filings
  • Lead large project teams including team members that are outside of technical
  • Present to customers and at external conferences
  • Accurately document all work in customer processes
  • Fully understand how their products work in customer processes
  • Fully understand their manufacturing capabilities
  • Perform research in assigned areas and collaborate alongside other researchers
  • Develop laboratory tests and analytical procedures
  • Develop new products / solutions for customer base
  • Interface with Sales and Marketing to introduce new products
  • Interface with Engineering and Production staff to bring new products on line
  • Supervise assigned technical staff
  • Limited travel, as necessary

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Organic Chemistry or related science, required. (PhD in Organic Chemistry or related sciences, highly preferred)
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in industrial chemistry applications, required. (8 years’ experience is required with a Bachelor’s degree)
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory safety policies and procedures, chemical hazards, and other precautions in order to promote an effective and safe workplace
  • Must be creative and action oriented with the ability and desire to drive for results
  • Skilled with dealing with ambiguity and show an aptitude to learn on the fly
  • The ability to manage projects, required
  • Must be an approachable, collaborative, team player
  • Skilled with developing others, required. Experience in setting up and supervising a lab, preferred
  • Experience working at a large corporation, preferred
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have great presentation skills and be willing and able to deliver technical presentations
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office, required
  • Possess strong business acumen and have intellectual horsepower
  • Comfortable and at east around senior levels of leadership
  • Must always exhibit a customer focus
  • Must possess timely decision making skills
