Pigment Tech Service Manager

The Pigment Tech Service Manager will be primarily responsible for management and coordination of all operational tasks and activities of the laboratory.  This position will take part in the development of concepts and measure to improve the efficiency, performance and reliability of the laboratory as well as its implementation.

Essential Functions:

  • Provision of analysis and test results needed to achieve the production quantity, quality and adherence to the cost framework
  • Analysis of data and preparation of reports with regard to deviations, trends, optimization potential, or basis for management review and compliance with the requirements of the Quality Management system
  • Manage and train team of lab technicians on proper use of equipment and procedures
  • Meet with customers, as needed, in North America to provide technical support and services to assist in project requests
  • Obtain technical approval for titanium dioxide pigments within new accounts
  • Support and enhance existing business in North America by providing knowledge and assistance to the sales, technical services and customer service teams
  • Work directly with Technical Service Representatives to evaluate customer needs and requirements
  • Present and report customer needs and resolutions back to the sales and marketing department
  • Implement SMART Goals for the Technical Service team; Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Oriented
  • Implement and support elements of Operational Discipline; Up-to-date SOP’s, Housekeeping, Health Safety & Environment (HSE), Equipment Calibration and Maintenance
  • Maintain ISO procedures and certification
  • Monitor and review staff’s performance in order to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Mentor and motivate technical staff to deliver quality services to internal and external customers
  • Ensure the sample making processes are current with industry standards and represents the customers process
  • Oversee laboratory safety and ensure that the laboratory remains in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
  • Share technical expertise with team of Manager and mentor Chemist and Technicians
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is worn and policies are followed when working in laboratory
  • Assist with developing reports and documents detailing test methods, project scope and overall results
  • This individual will train in the US for 6 months and then will spend some time in Europe
  • This position will travel approximately 10% of the time

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Field of study in Science, Chemistry or Engineering preferred
  • 10-15 years technical service experience in Ti02 pigments
  • Excellent communication skills with strong technical skills
  • High level of professional and personal motivation
  • Ability to communicate with multiple facilities and individuals across the organization
  • Knowledge of the application of the relevant laws, regulations and industry standards
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma and/or Lean Methodologies
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a variety of projects
