Plant / Process Chemist

The Plant / Process Chemist will have the following responsibilities:

*Run the products that are going to be scaled up in the plant in the lab 

*Scale up the products in the 750 gallon reactor

*Provide a detailed running procedure for the plant operators to follow

*Hold pre-run meetings with the necessary people to ensure everyone is on board

*Monitor the first three batches that are run in the production vessels

*Make any adjustments that may be needed to insure a quality, consistent, first run products

*Prepare information and teach reactor operators the basics of the products they are running.  Be able to demonstrate some of the problems reactor operators may encounter while running and what to do about it

*Communicate with production operators to improve production batch sheets and running instructions

*Make sure new batch formulas fit present production equipment

*Initiate and maintain standard agitation speed documents for production batches per reactor

*Manage the product transfers between plant sites

*Manage and supervise all toll production at both sites

*Update and add more precession to the production running procedures for both plants

*Resolve technical issues in production with existing products

*Work closely with production group, lab personnel and QC to identify products that are difficult to make or consistently have a quality problem

*Develop project plan; time line for scale up of products.  Ensure successful completion of scale up on projects so products are delivered on time.  Communicate progress, successes, and problems in the product scale up program that may affect performance, product specifications, and cost or on-time completion of a project

*Attend training when needed, to enhance job skills

*Participate in representing company at various tradeshows, exhibits, organization meetings, etc. Selected to be attended by the company

*Some travel required (3-4 trips per year)

Requirements:

BS/MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, may consider PhD

*Minimum of 5 years of experience in polymer manufacturing environment.  Experience in acrylic emulsion polymers preferred

*Experience scaling up products and interacting with manufacturing           

*This person must be very hands on.  Will be directly involved in all aspects of the development process from the lab through scale-up

*Strong project management and organizational skills
