Polymer Synthesis Chemist – Silicones

The incumbent in this position will be responsible for leading projects to develop new and improved silicone polymers including improvements in polymer processing methodology.  The range of silicone polymers encompass basic polydimethylsiloxanes, vinyl and phenyl functional silicone polymers and gums and dispersions.  Project work will also involve more complex organofunctional silicones such as silicone polyethers, and silicone epoxies and acrylates.  The polymer synthesis work will include everything from conducting actual polymerization experiments, material characterization and assessment of physical properties, to supporting the scale up work in the manufacturing environment.  As a project leader, this individual will manage the cross-functional project team and be responsible for adherence to timelines.  This self-driven individual will coordinate project related communication with all business functions such as Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain and the R&D applications team for the end-use to ensure the manufacturability and performance of the materials developed.

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or other Physical Science discipline or related chemical experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in silicone polymer technologies
  • Experience with interpretation and, in some cases, operation of GPC, GC, FTIR, NMR and various wet chemical methods for materials characterization
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Software applications
  • Prior experience in formal project management system
  • Prior experience managing projects on both a local and global scale
  • Basic understanding of Regulatory Affairs, related to business applications
  • Experience in health care application preferred, but not required
  • Some travel will be required (occasionally global), expected to be 20% or less
  • Excellent written, oral and listening communication skills with all levels of the organization
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to use these skills to develop working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Detail oriented and highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple priorities
