Principal Scientist Product and Process Development

We are seeking a strategic, highly experienced and innovative Principal Scientist to lead process and manufacturing excellence initiatives within our dynamic R&D Process and Manufacturing Excellence team.  This role will drive the innovation, development, and optimization of manufacturing processes and technologies for a diverse portfolio of nutritional food and supplement products.  The Principal Scientist will serve as a technical authority, leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing strategic decisions to ensure robust, compliant, and efficient manufacturing of company products.

How You Would Contribute:

  • Lead the design, qualification, and optimization of manufacturing processes for commercial production of company nutritional products, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirement.
  • Apply the Quality by Design (QbD) principles and own the data-driven design, evaluation and qualification of product formulas and production processes.
  • Drive manufacturability assessment, design and oversee feasibility, pilot and scale-up trials with scientific rigor to support new product development and/or optimization of existing formulas to meet the commercial and regulatory needs at target market.
  • Explore and evaluate new ingredients, delivery technologies, and manufacturing innovations to enhance product performance and operational efficiency.
  • Apply statistical tools to evaluate formulas and process performance data and recommend and implement changes.
  • Implement continuous improvement strategies across R&D and manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct data-driven root cause analyses and resolve complex technical issues related to raw materials, equipment, processes, and product formulas.
  • Collaborate with global cross-functional teams including Quality, Procurement, Regulatory Affairs, Project Management, and Supply Chain.
  • Provide strategic recommendations based on sound technical data and product lifecycle insights.
  • Mentor and train junior scientists, fostering a culture of scientific excellence and innovation.
  • Represent R&D in strategic forums and communicate technical insights to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 + Bonus

Qualifications:

Skills and Background Required to be Successful:

  • 8+ years of commercial product development and manufacturing experience (capsules, tablets, soft gels, powder, liquid, etc.) with broad understanding of technologies and product lines.
  • Expertise in QbD principles and extensive experience in product / process development within a cGMP environment.
  • Proficiency in statistical tools for product / process improvement and specification development.
  • Able to take initiative with demonstrated leadership in technical project management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with strategic decision-making ability.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concept to non-technical audiences.
  • Proven track record to learn with an open mind, acquire and apply new knowledge quickly.
  • Can navigate a fast-paced and diverse environment.
  • Ability to lead, coach and mentor in an industrial setting and influence across dives teams.
