Quality Assurance Customer Manager

Reporting directly to the Food Safety and Assurance management, this individual is responsible for supervising Quality Assurance and Food Safety staff and coordinating and monitoring systematic sampling of incoming materials, in-process product and the manufacturing environment while ensuring work is performed in compliance with standard operating procedures and food safety standards.

Essential Functions Required:

  • Supervises the systematic sampling of incoming material, in-process product and the manufacturing environment using established standard operating procedures; ensures sampling procedures and collection methods are accurately followed
  • Coordinates and supervise Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs, including microbiological testing, environmental microbiological monitoring program and compliance certifications
  • Monitors and coordinates systemic samplings of incoming raw products, finished products and plant environments for safety and quality using established standard operating procedures
  • Manages internal control samples, testing and recordkeeping to ensure completeness. Review written records for accuracy and validity results
  • Coordinate with third party labs, the raw receiving department, the production team, the distribution team and food safety management regarding the communication of approval to release raw products for processing and finished goods for shipping
  • Conducts investigations related to raw material, finished product, commodities and/or consumer / customer complaints, etc.
  • Maintains a strong leadership presence on the manufacturing floor throughout the shift(s)
  • Responsible for shift/work scheduling, training, delegation of duties & disciplinary actions of Food Safety and Quality Assurance line staff
  • Assists with execution of training to maintain compliance with Company and regulatory requirements
  • Initiates corrective actions ensuring discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner to minimize consumer risk, cost, and production down time
  • Assists management with internal audit programs and external audits; conducts process and documentation audits
  • Compiles, analyzes and presents data in a summary to multi-level audiences
  • Ability to work a varying schedule which may include PM and AM shifts, weekend and holiday hours as business needs. Ability to be “on call” as needed to respond to and resolve after hours issues
  • Cooperates with supervisors and managers and ensures compliance with all Company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Injury and Illness Preventative Program (IIPP), Hazard Communication, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) as outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21 – Section 110

Additional Requirements:

  • Functions as a back-up manager / supervisor and cross-trains in other departmental tasks to function as back up to team members
  • Proactively assists team members, managers and employees as needed; provides leadership and guidance to new and less experienced team members and business partners
  • Manage special projects and perform other duties as assigned
  • Change Management – Adaptable to a fast paced, shifting work environment; willing to remain flexible to accommodate changing business conditions, work requirements and scheduling needs
  • Detail Oriented – Attention to detail, ability to focus on the projects or task at hand and consistently deliver error free results

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Ag Science, Microbiology or a related field of science from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Five+ years of related experience in Food Safety or Quality Control in a food manufacturing environment with increasing levels of responsibility and authority; some supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of raw materials, production processes and quality control
  • Up-to-date knowledge of State and Federal food safety regulations, Good Management Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) programs
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present to multi-level audiences; bilingual (English/Spanish) strong preferred; must be willing to acquire Spanish language skills as required
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with data base software
