Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager

This 24-hour, union facility is currently seeking a Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager.  Shift being approximately 8 am – 5 pm, M-F. 

  • Food industry a must and overseeing union and non-union employees is ideal
  • Quality team is robust, with Director and Sr. Manager of Quality in place
  • Food safety in HACCP, PCQI, SQF, FDA and USDA knowledge and certifications highly preferred
  • This manager will be overseeing Quality and Food Safety and 3 supervisors as direct reports. Production runs Monday – Friday and occasional Saturday if needed.  They are closed on Sundays
  • You will manage 3 Supervisors and around 17 technicians indirect
  • Ideally this person will have some larger company best practices they can bring to the organization and demonstrate efficiencies that optimize current quality procedures. Smaller company okay so long as candidate can demonstrate building out and implementing successful quality and food safety metrics and giving examples

Purpose of the position:

  • Manage aspects of the plant HACCP plans and programs
  • Verifies HACCP compliance including implementation of pre-requisite programs
  • Serve as Food Safety Leader for site under guidance of Director of FSQA
  • Evaluate daily records for compliance and serve as site SQF Practitioner
  • Verify finished product conformance by analyzing raw material, work-in-process, and finished product testing and monitoring data
  • Manages development and maintenance of quality systems and quality policies to assure compliance to GFSI, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Manages internal and external QA audits including audit CAPA and close out
  • Identify and implement quality systems improvements based on findings from internal audits and assessments and external audits
  • Interacts with USDA inspectors regularly
  • Assist Operations in addressing product and process related quality issued
  • Perform hold and release activities, including retention of product, incident investigations, inventory verification and reconciliation, and disposition of product
  • Tracks and trends quality system performance and reports on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Provide functional support for facility projects and initiatives including conducting sanitary design reviews as needed
  • Trains and develops quality assurance personnel to ensure they meet acceptable standards
  • Serve as back-up to the Director of Quality Assurance in his/her absence

  • Participates as a key member in employment decisions
  • Enforces systems, policies, and procedures
  • Oversees employee participation and adherence to employee and food safety programs and policies

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Meat/Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or related
  • 4+ years of food manufacturing experience and 2+ years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management
  • Knowledge in USDA / FDA, HACCP, and PCQI certified
  • Knowledge of quality principles and tools
  • Bilingual preferred
