Quality Control Manager

Under the direction of the Director, Quality Systems, the Quality Manager coordinates, implements, and manages the programs necessary to meet the requirements of current SQF standards and ensure storage and production of safe, quality food.

As an SQF Practitioner, PCQI, & FDQI for the company, you will be responsible for working with the Quality team to validate changes to food safety fundamentals, food safety plans and food quality plans.  Also, the practitioner will assist with verifying the food safety programs and prerequisites.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor quality team to ensure all quality and safety specifications are met; ensure workflow is efficient
  • Review daily production documentation
  • Audit quality systems, initiating corrective action as required
  • Assist with the development of process control procedures to ensure finished products meet quality & safety specifications
  • Recommend and implement training for quality employees
  • Lead annual food safety training program
  • Perform annual FSMA plan and Food Defense plan reviews
  • Provide technical assistance to customers, vendors, and other departments of the company
  • Resolve any quality issues
  • Review all complaints received from customers to determine corrective action
  • Lead regulatory, customer, and GFSI audits including preparatory work and corrective actions
  • Ensure document control and food safety programs are current and compliant with industry standards and company policies
  • Work with pest control company and assist in corrective actions
  • Back-up for Quality Supervisor

Job Requirements

Technical Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field required and three (3) years of relevant experience
  • Communication Skills: Good listener, able to present complicated topics in a clear way both written and verbally, engaging in discussions, basic negotiation skills, interaction with operators, supervisors, management, service providers
  • Interpersonal skills: Team player, respectful, request and offer assistance as necessary
  • Optimistic, positive attitude in recognizing challenges and finding solutions

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • This position requires being highly organized, self-motivated who can work independently and as a member of a team
  • Must have strong leadership skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills requiring the ability to resolve conflicting opinions and obtain collaboration
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of changing situations in a fast-paced environment

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Communication Skills:

The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required.  Must have effective electronic technological skills to include MS Office software such as Excel and Word.  Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with frequent, established deadlines is required.  Organizational and analytical skills are required.  The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports and correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, customers, vendors and other employees of the organization
