Job Description
Quality Supervisor, 2nd Shift (M-F, 1-9 p.m.)
The Quality Supervisor will be responsible for supporting all quality assurance for the lab. They will oversee the daily operations of the lab; perform a broad range of complex, analytical, chemical, sensorial, and physical tests and ensure safety, quality, and service. Testing of raw materials and finished product samples is also a main focus.
The Quality Supervisor will ensure compliance and have familiarity with programs such as: HACCP, GMP, GFSI, FSMA, SQF, ISO 22000, BRC.
Experience with pH meters, refractometer, densitometer, GC, water activity meter, and turbidimeter.
Responsibilities:
- Utilize and drive robust cause analysis process methods and tools to solve both systematic and complex technical problems and deliver continuous improvement
- Perform internal and external investigations of deviations and customer complaints
- Provide consistent, two-way communication between production, cross-functional, quality, and management teams
- Partner cross-functionally to train, implement, maintain quality programs and Food Safety systems for the facility
- Manage and facilitate internal shelf-life testing and collaborate with R&D to conduct monthly evaluations and updates
- Champion and lead key quality projects/initiatives to drive continuous improvement
- Conduct hourly team (mid-year and end of the year) calibration reviews and action plans to support development, and retention efforts
- Partner cross functionally with the R&D, Planning, Safety, Production, and Warehouse teams to maximize results
- Ensure laboratory methodology, calibration and maintenance scheduling / tracking, and new method validation processes are conducted
- Supervise and train team members to achieve quality metrics in a manner consistent with our culture and values
- Coordinate daily lab coverage to meet internal and external customer demands, including weekend scheduling and off-shift micro pick-ups
- Assist the QA Manager with leading all company Quality initiatives and Quality audits locally
- Act as on-call Food Safety & Quality (PCQI) support cross functionally and internally
- Ensure compliance and record keeping for all mandated quality checks, testing, sampling and sanitation activities
- Use continuous improvement methodologies and projects to improve and streamline quality processes
- Evaluate and determine Food Safety risk of raw materials, helping maintain Quality & Food Safety (FSMA) documentation
- Responsible for recording keeping requirements within the laboratory
- Perform daily testing of all raw materials, intermediates, and finished products. Ensure that the products are tested in accordance with established SOPs
- Able to take microbial samples and maintain a sterile/clean environment throughout the process
- Responsible for sampling incoming raw materials for analysis
- Responsible for documenting test results, per batch, on analytical sheets and into the computer system
- Responsible for the daily review of production batch records and HACCP documents to ensure compliance with said programs and SOPs

Job Requirements
Technical Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in a related field such as Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or Food Science
- 3-5 or more years of experience in quality assurance within clean (food, bev, pharma) manufacturing and two or more years of experience in a supervisory capacity
- Experience with HACCP, FSMA, ISO 22000, SQF, BRC, or equivalent. Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) criteria
- Understanding of quality testing and standards within the food and beverage industry to include analytical, microbiological and sensory
- Effective communication skills with the ability to influence change and encourage action
- Solid problem-solving abilities with the ability to coach and mentor others in this capacity
- Experience with QC related instruments such as pH meters, refractometer, densitometer, colorimeter, GC, water activity meter, and turbidimeter
- Previous flavor industry experience
- Demonstrated excellence in priority setting execution skills. Able to handle multiple priorities
- Discern sensory differences between tested flavors and flavor chemicals
