R&D Chemist – Specialties Group

The Specialties group is working on developing new technologies, including binder and sizing chemistries, and novel new applications in 3D printing.  This group will not be focused on patenting, publications, or long-term research, but novel new product development.

  • Responsible for the completion of assigned projects to process and characterize unsaturated polyesters and vinyl esters resins in new composite applications. Developing new test procedures, and modify existing testing systems to meet the needs of our customers and provide technical support for these products at the manufacturing or fabrication site
  • Analyze the experimental data and results to optimize the performance and cost goals; communicate it through written reports and oral presentations. Share information with Customers, R&D group and others; record and share results through proper use of lab books, project files and monthly reports etc.
  • Maintain a safe lab environment and carry out safe practices in laboratory

Requirements:

  • BS/MS/PhD (BS in Chemistry plus 10 plus years [or equivalent], advanced degree preferred), and 5 years minimum experience in development and processing of unsaturated polymers.
  • Strong knowledge of the Mechanical, Physical, and thermal characterization tolls for Composite materials, and equipment used to manufacture / process / molding of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester polymers
  • Strong knowledge of current FRP fabrication processes in closed molding, prepreg, open molding, laminating and cast polymer applications
  • Knowledge of statistical quality control (SQC) and statistical process control (SPC) methods
  • Knowledge of Intellectual property review
  • Detail oriented with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, problem solve, prioritize workload, and multi-task
  • Self-starter, comfortable working independently or in a group, attention to safety
