R&D Chemist

The Research and Development Chemist will work with the Research & Development team to support strategic technology research projects, assist in the development of new products, and assist in maintaining existing products.  In addition, the R&D Chemist will assist other members of the R&D team in analyzing samples from the field (e.g. sales support and competitor product samples), provide technical and analytical support to both internal and external customers, investigate and resolve customer complaints and issues that involve company products.  This position will also write analytical reports and maintain/troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

  • Receive directives on new formulations / products for development and learn / implement company technology to achieve the necessary goals
  • Ability to effectively create a research plan and meet goals as laid out to management
  • Independent researching to solve any task at hand
  • Utilize multiple types of chemistry (i.e. formulations, analytical, and organic chemistry) to accomplish the task at hand
  • Optimize current formulations to improve upon stability profiles for regulatory approval and long-term stability when necessary
  • Create reports and required documentation needed for products such as research reports, registration documents, certificates of analyses, method write-ups, standard operating procedures, and summary reports
  • Maintains familiarity on use of all applicable equipment, systems, and procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintains current and accurate documentation
  • Ability to work in the plant and communicate with production staff to investigate pertinent chemical issues
  • Liaison between chemistry teams worldwide
  • Maintains clean, orderly, and safe laboratory work area in the company laboratory
  • Complies with company policies and quality control guidelines
  • Stays abreast of relevant current technology and applicable chemistry

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry required; Master’s degree in Chemistry highly preferred
  • Previous experience (3+ years) working as an analytical, organic, or as a chemist in applicable field
  • Previous experience developing new technology such as organic synthesis, process chemistry, formulations chemistry, and analytical chemistry
  • Significant understanding on the use, interpretation, and maintenance of analytical instrumentation (primarily HPLC, GC, GC/MS, and ICP-OES)
  • Ability to communicate interdepartmentally between all teams including production, sales, QC/QA, R&D, and regulatory
  • Experience working with hazardous materials required
  • Must be able to work independently in problem solving and developmental work
  • ERP experience required; Oracle experience highly preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products
  • Someone outgoing, willing to do what it takes to get the job done
