RD Packaging Engineer

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled R&D Packaging Engineer to join our team in Denver, CO.  As a Packaging Engineer here, you will play a vital role in the development, optimization, and maintenance of packaging solutions for our diverse range of branded Mexican food products.  Working closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, production, procurement, and quality assurance, you will ensure that our packaging meets the highest standards of functionality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.  The ideal candidate will have a degree in Packaging and about 2 years of relevant experience in the food industry.

Essential Job Functions:

Packaging Design and Development

• Lead the design and development of packaging solutions tailored to specific product requirements, ensuring compatibility with our manufacturing processes and supply chain
• Conduct feasibility studies, material selection, and testing to assess the performance and suitability of packaging material such as plastics, glass, metals, and corrugate materials
• Collaborate with R&D to innovate new packaging designs and technologies that enhance product freshness, shelf life, and consumer convenience

Packaging Optimization:

• Identify opportunities for packaging optimization to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize environmental impact
• Conduct packaging line trials and performance evaluations to optimize packaging processes and minimize waste generation
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance packaging performance and address any issues related to product integrity or customer satisfaction
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and certifications

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance:

• Ensure compliance with relevant food safety regulations and industry standards in all aspects of packaging design, labeling, and documentation
• Work closely with quality assurance teams to conduct risk assessments, address packaging-related quality issues, and implement corrective actions as necessary
• Stay informed about emerging trends, regulations, and best practices in food packaging technology, and proactively apply this knowledge to maintain our competitive edge
• Develop and implement packaging specs to ensure product consistency and adherence to company standards
• Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to address any issues related to packaging quality or safety

Technical Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging engineering / Chemical engineering with 2+ years of food packaging development, preferably in food or pharmaceutical industry
• Strong understanding of packaging materials, technologies, and processes, with experience in PET and PP tubs, glass jars, metal lids, corrugated and barrier films
• Up to 25% travel, sometime independently
