Regulatory Compliance Supervisor

The Regulatory Compliance Specialist is responsible for supporting the implementation of the strategic regulatory pillars.  This role will:

  • Ensures regulatory compliance of ingredients and finished products in United States and Canada
  • Provides regulatory guidance to R&D, Legal, Quality, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Customers, Co-Manufacturers, Suppliers, Consultants and other internal and external stakeholders

Scope of the Job

  • Provides regulatory expertise across multiple business channels and product categories (dressings, mayonnaise, sauces, dips, edible oils, pan sprays, shortenings, margarines, spreads, soup bases, syrups, condiments)
  • Collaborate cross-functionally internally and externally to ensure global compliance necessary as result of changes to regulations including Religious Certification Programs
  • Interprets and communicates statutory requirements to key stakeholders (R&D, Legal, Quality, Sales, Marketing, Operations, Customers, Co-Manufacturers, Suppliers, Consultants) to ensure agreed deliverables are achieved

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proactively seeks to enhance knowledge in food laws pertaining to local, state and federal statutory requirements, as well as those in a designated global selling market (APAC, EMEA or LATAM). The scope of work may include ingredients and finished products country permissibility assessments, labeling requirements, ingredients country of origin status and manufacturers’ declaration statement to support domestic and international business initiatives
  • Leverage knowledge of current or emerging regulations, product formulations and Company standards to provide regulatory compliance documentation in response to customers’ requests
  • Independently coordinates and manages USDA label submission and approval process to ensure timely approval of labels to prevent production interruptions and logistics delays for company and its partners
  • Works cross-functionally and collaboratively across the company on regulatory projects pertaining to relationships with internal and external partners, regulatory agencies and consultants to achieve desired business and regulatory goals
  • Write Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and One Point Lessons (OPL) to facilitate knowledge transfer and enhance regulatory capability and capacity

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Regulatory Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, Food Science, Food Nutrition, Quality Assurance, Food Safety, Biology, Chemistry, International Food law, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in food, beverage, or pharmaceutical industry in regulatory compliance or in a regulatory affairs capacity
  • Demonstrative experience managing USDA FSIS label submission and approval process, preferred
  • Demonstrated experience managing Kosher and Halal Religious Certification Programs, preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge in global food laws and regulations including food ingredients and food labeling under FDA and SUDA jurisdiction
  • A working knowledge of Kosher and Halal Certification Programs, Trade Agreement (FTA), Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and related geographic regional trade activities (APAC, EMEA, LATAM, NA)
  • Knowledgeable in hazard analysis, risk assessments and food safety concepts
  • Demonstrative understanding of Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and associated Final Rules, Federal Food Drug and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA), Codex Alimentarius, United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) Labelling Statutes and Regulations and other applicable regulations governing food manufacturing
  • Excellent organizational, communication (both verbal and written), interpersonal and team interaction skills
  • Highly motivated, collaborative, self-directed and self-starter team player
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office, regulatory software systems (e.g., Decernis gComply and Decernis gComply Plus) and Genesis labelling platform
