Research Associate – Polymers

The Research Associate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Accountable for all aspects of lab safety and adherence to company Values
  • Conduct materials research in support of all of company’s businesses, including Specialty Materials, Optical Communications, and Automotive
  • You will apply your knowledge or organic and polymer chemistry to develop new material systems (organics, glass, and ceramics)
  • You may lead project teams with scientists from Development, Engineering, and the Business units
  • 10-20% domestic travel and occasional travel to Europe and Asia, depending on the project scope

Requirements:

  • PhD in Organic or Polymer Chemistry
  • At least 5 years industrial experienced with an emphasis on mechanistic understanding of polymer structure / property relationships
  • Good polymer chemist who knows how to make polymers, characterize them, and develop applications to meet customer needs
  • Synthetic organic chemist who is interested in learning about polymers, or a trained synthetic polymer chemist
  • Personal dedication to continuous improvement in lab safety
  • Has a track record of anticipating the need for new technology, developing strategic proposals to address, and driving new technology into the marketplace
  • Has wide contacts within industry and the technical community
  • Has proven ability to build and align multi-disciplinary teams to achieve business goals
  • Team-focused personality, not someone who just wants recognition for their own ideas
  • Establishes proper balance between the sense of urgency to delivery program goals with complex technical and business drivers
  • Serves as an excellent role model of someone who mentors and develops colleagues at all levels and different functions across the corporation
